The American Beauty star will team up with 2007 Tony winner Michael Mayer, who will direct the play, scheduled to open in New York next April.
The production will premiere at Los Angeles' Geffen Playhouse in February. Bening will play a feminist writer suffering from writer's block in the play.
The actress made her Broadway debut in Costal Disturbances, for which she received a Tony Award nomination.
