Chris Evans and Billie... the divorce

After their famous whirlwind romance and Las Vegas marriage, Chris Evans and Billie Piper will finally divorce today.

The multi-millionaire media mogul and singer-turned-actress will get their decree nisi at the High Court in London.

Many thought the divorce had been thrashed out last September but a string of delays mean it is only formally endorsed today.

An insider explained: "The divorce was meant to go through late last year but has taken much longer than was expected.

"Interestingly, he is divorcing her, although the grounds for this may simply be because they have been apart for more than two years."

Neither is expected to attend today’s brief hearing, which will bring to an end their six-year marriage. Their decree absolute, the final document, can be applied for after a further six weeks and one day.

Unlike the respondent in many recent acrimonious divorces, Piper, 24, who is independently wealthy, has made it known she will not be seeking a penny of Evans’ £30million personal fortune.

The pair remain good friends and speak regularly despite their split three years ago.

While Evans, 41, has returned to the airwaves with a hit show on Radio 2, Swindon-born Piper has followed up her successful, though brief, pop career with a string of acclaimed acting roles.

Prior to her considerable success as The Doctor’s assistant Rose Tyler in Doctor Who, she began her foray into the acting world with a lead role in the BBC’s 2003 adaptation of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales.

She later had a part in the filmed version of Philip Pullman’s Victorian novel The Ruby In The Smoke for BBC1 before going on to star as the heroine Fanny Price in ITV1’s production of Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park.

She has also signed a six-figure publishing deal for her autobiography.

In a recent interview, she told how she had no regrets about marrying Evans despite their 17-year age gap and subsequent split but she conceded that not having invited her parents to the wedding in 2001 had been a mistake.

She explained: "I regret it and we didn’t speak for a while, although, at the time, I had to be selfish. I didn’t want them to question it because, in my head, it was perfect: the first time in years I felt happy."

Piper is now dating actor Laurence Fox, 28, while Evans is understood to be unattached.

While it was her first trip down the aisle, it was the DJ’s second failed marriage, after his divorce from first wife Carol McGiffin in 1998.

Calum's Shock Confession

Has Calum Best come clean?

In an exclusive newspaper interview, he's opened up about sex, booze and cleaning up his act.

The son of football legend George Best poured his heart out to The Sun with amazing honesty.

"I'm a bad boy," he confessed. "I go out and get drunk, I get high on cocaine and I do stupid debauched things with the wrong women."

His confession comes after the paper printed pictures of him allegedly having what they say was a 'kinky, drug-fuelled threesome' in a London hotel.

Calum admitted: "I do drink too much and it gets out of control. The drink leads to the coke and the coke leads to debauchery - the wrong people and places.

"I'm a red-blooded male and I'm addicted to sex."

Referring to his father's alcohol addiction, he said: "I don't have to be like Dad, but I feel his blood running through my veins. I need to sort out my problems before it's too late.

"Addiction is part of me. I am not blaming my dad, but he was the same. He might have been a legendary footballer and an amazing person but it's tragic how booze can end up screwing your life."

Calum is in LA at the moment and the paper says he has vowed to check into rehab when he returns to London.

He continued: "I don't want to be 45 out drinking, doing cocaine and with the wrong girls. I don't want to be a sad old man on my own, drowning my sorrows.

"This is a wake-up call. I've got to take responsibility for my life."

Jenna Fischer Looking at 12-Week Recovery from Back Injury

Jenna Fischer at the Los Angeles Premiere of

HOLLYWOOD - The Office star Jenna Fischer needs another 12 weeks to fully recover from fracturing her back in four places while falling down a flight of stairs in a New York bar earlier this month.

The actress, who plays Pam Beesly on the comedy, was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital in Manhattan after the fall at Buddakan on May 15.

The 33-year-old still finds sleeping at night extremely difficult.

She says, "I had a rough night last night. I'm mostly off the meds, but I did take some last night because sleeping is probably the most uncomfortable thing right now. I just can't get comfortable.

"My back doctor said it will be about 12 weeks until I'm fully recovered."

During her fall, Fischer knew she was about to be seriously injured.

She adds, "I was going to do one dance and then get out of there. The dance floor was down a long set of marble stairs. I linked arms with my friend and just missed a step.

"All I know is I was suddenly not on the ground anymore. My legs flipped out from underneath me, and while I was in the air, I had the thought, 'This isn't going to end well.'

"I've never felt anything like it. I was horribly nauseous and dizzy."

'Entourage' Denies Racist Casting

Adrian Grenier and Kevin Connolly

HOLLYWOOD - The makers of TV hit Entourage have denied claims by Mark Wahlberg's former bodyguard that they cast actors according to race.

Entourage, which stars Adrian Grenier as a rising Hollywood star, is inspired by Wahlberg's early years in Tinseltown, when he brought his friends from Massachusetts to share his newfound fame.

African-American Leonard Taylor worked for Wahlberg "back in the day" and accuses the makers of Entourage of failing to include any minority groups in the show.

He tells the New York Post's Page Six column, "There are no black people on the show. There are no black or Latino bodyguards, like Mark used to have--it's a slap in the face. People always ask me, 'Why is there no character based on you in Entourage?'"

However, a representative for the HBO show, responds, "The show is only loosely based on Mark Wahlberg's experience. There aren't really any bodyguards, and as for being multicultural, Turtle (one of the main characters) is dating an African-American."

Keira Knightley 'Relieved' to Move on from 'Pirates' Character

Kiera Knightley

HOLLYWOOD - Movie star Keira Knightley is "relieved" to be taking on a new role in latest movie Atonement, because it's more of a challenge than her part in the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

The Pride and Prejudice actress stars alongside James McAvoy as star-crossed lovers in the movie, which is based on the Ian McEwan novel.

And the English beauty is grateful for the new role, because it has more depth than that of her Pirates character, Elizabeth Swann.

She tells British film magazine Empire, "This is such a relief. Not that I don't enjoy all that Pirates stuff, but it's not about my character--it's about Johnny (Depp)'s character. It's not focusing on emotional turmoil. It's been great just to get my brain engaged."

Anderson says she had "a breakdown" when sons Brandon, 10, and Dylan, 9, wanted to watch the movie, forcing her to come clean about the well-publicized video.

She says, "They really wanted to see Borat and I finally had a breakdown and let them because all their friends had. I said, 'There are a few things we have to talk about before you see Borat.' And they go: 'We know about the magazines.' So that was one gone!

"I kind of went 'la la la la la la la' over the parts I didn't want them to hear. Actually, I did tell them, I said: 'You know, when your dad and I were first together we used to videotape everything. Everybody's naked, hugging, kissing, all that good stuff and someone stole the tape.' And I remember when we were watching the film and Dylan goes, 'You mean everybody has seen this?' And I said, 'Yes.'"

'Batman' Sequel First Feature to Shoot in IMAX Format

Christopher Nolan

HOLLYWOOD - Upcoming Batman sequel The Dark Knight will be the first feature film to contain footage shot in the IMAX format.

Director Christopher Nolan will film four scenes, including the introduction of villain The Joker--played by Heath Ledger--in the follow-up to his own Batman Begins for IMAX cinemas.

There are only 280 IMAX cinemas, which have screens up to eight stories high, worldwide; less than 100 of these screen feature films.

But Nolan believes the format is the future for action cinema.

He says, "There's simply nothing like seeing a movie that way. It's more immersive for the audience. I wish I could shoot the entire thing this way.

"You can't do this on any home theater. Batman has some of the most extraordinary characters in pop culture. We wanted The Joker to have the grandest entrance possible.

"I figure if you could take an IMAX camera to Mount Everest or outer space, you could use it in a feature movie."

"I realized how much energy and love I had put into my past relationship when it was gone because I genuinely did not know what to do with myself, and it made me so sad. I confess, I was so lost.

"This letter is to not place blame on anyone, although I do see the world with a completely different set of eyes now.

"I know everyone thinks that I am playing the victim, but I am not and I hate what is going on right now so much. Maybe this is the reason for this letter...to maybe allow people to look at me differently."

Britney Spears Vomits in L.A. Club?

Britney Spears

HOLLYWOOD - Troubled pop star Britney Spears is back to her wild partying ways--the singer was reportedly seen vomiting violently in the bathrooms of a Los Angeles hotel over the weekend.

The 25-year-old mother of two yesterday posted a message on her official Web site insisting she had entered rehab earlier this year because she had "hit rock bottom" and was "so lost," refuting reports that her stay was the result of depression or alcohol abuse.

But the superstar has allegedly returned to her pre-rehab days, after she was found slumped over a toilet in Los Angeles' Sky Bar at the Mondrian Hotel on Sunday, crying as she threw up. She was later carried out of the club by hotel staff, according to British newspaper The Sun.

Spears was reportedly overheard telling hotel workers, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Things aren't going well for me at the moment."

A source tells the tabloid, "She had makeup smeared over her face and her wig hanging off. She had a room booked at the hotel but was too ill to stay and was begging her bodyguard to take her home.

"She looked a real mess and was sitting on the floor with her head over the (toilet) bowl throwing up. There was vomit down the front of her black dress and around her mouth."

Lindsay Lohan's Friends Come Forward with Suicide Tales

Lindsay Lohan

HOLLYWOOD - Lindsay Lohan's closest friends are hoping the actress' current rehab stint will end her suicidal tendencies following a string of bizarre recent incidents.

As the 20-year-old Mean Girls star checked into the Promises rehab facility in Malibu, California, on Monday--after she was charged with drunk driving--her so-called friends were preparing to go public with the actress' personal hell.

One pal tells Star magazine Lohan attempted to take her own life twice in the same night at a recent Hollywood party.

The source tells the publication, "She grabbed a knife and started cutting at her wrists. A friend made her stop.

"Lindsay ran into the bathroom with a bottle of Advil."

The insider then claims the actress locked herself in the bathroom and threatened to swallow the entire bottle unless she was left alone.

And those are just two incidents from a crazy month that led up to Lohan's car crash on Saturday night, which landed her with a DUI charge.

The actress was also photographed allegedly snorting cocaine in a hotel bathroom.

The friend tells Star, "Lindsay needs to go back into rehab, then spend time soul searching and getting to the roots of her problems. These emotional breakdowns she has are getting worse, and one of these days, she really will kill herself."

Britney says she hit ‘rock bottom’ before rehab

Spears denies alcohol problem, says she was ‘overwhelmed’ after divorce

LOS ANGELES - Britney Spears says she “hit rock bottom,” in a message posted on her Web site about the end of her marriage and her time in rehab.

“Recently, I was sent to a very humbling place called rehab. I truly hit rock bottom. Till this day I don’t think that it was alcohol or depression,” the 25-year-old pop star writes. “I was like a bad kid running around with ADD (attention deficit disorder).”

Spears completed a monthlong stay at a luxury Malibu rehabilitation treatment facility in March after a series of run-ins with the paparazzi that included a stop at a San Fernando Valley hair salon, where she was caught on video shearing her own locks. Other photos splashed across the Internet appeared to reveal Spears out partying wearing nothing underneath her short skirts.

She was seen going out with Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan after filing for divorce from aspiring rapper Kevin Federline last November, just two months after giving birth to their second child, Jayden James. The pair also have an older son, Sean Preston, now 20 months.

The couple reached a divorce settlement in March.
“I had a manager from a long time ago come in and try to direct me and my life after I got my divorce,” writes Spears. “I was so overwhelmed I think that I was in a little shock too. I didn’t know who to go to.”

“I realized how much energy and love I had put into my past relationship when it was gone because I genuinely did not know what to do with myself, and it made me so sad. I confess, I was so lost,” she writes.

Explaining her recent behavior, she says: “I think it is actually normal for a young girl to go out after a huge divorce.

“I think the whole problem was letting too many people into my life,” she continues. “You never know another person’s intentions or what another person wants. ... I have had to cut so many people out of my life.”

Spears also says she is “having to face a lot of things” as she raises her two young sons.

“A lot of insecurities from when I was little are coming up again,” she writes. “It is like we are never good enough.”

But Spears says she’s no longer “angry at the tabloids,” and now tries to “be numb to what I see.”

“I am going to make mistakes everyday, and I am sure every mistake I make will probably be on CNN or ‘Good Morning America,’ ” she writes. “I am only human people and I love you for still loving me.”

She closes by saying, “We will never really understand or figure out life completely. That’s God’s job. I can’t wait to meet him ... or her. Love, Britney.”

She appeared on a show that aired yesterday, but that was taped on Tuesday.

In a posting on her blog after the on-air fight, she told fans she didn't know when she'd be back, but now the show's producers have confirmed O'Donnell has quit.

Angry 'Jericho' Fans Go Nuts

Skeet Ulrich
Skeet Ulrich stars as Jake Green in Jericho
HOLLYWOOD - Fans of recently cancelled TV drama Jericho have literally gone nuts over the fact that their favorite show has been axed: They've started sending the executives behind the decision boxes and boxes of kernels.

Appalled by the decision to scrap the cult series, which follows the fortunes of a community trying to survive after a nuclear attack, superfan Jeff Knoll linked up with online company NutsOnline.com to let CBS TV bosses know just what he thought of them.

Other fans caught wind of Knoll's idea, and so far nearly 20,000 pounds of nuts have been sent to various network executives in New York and Los Angeles, according to ABC News.

One devotee who quickly got involved with the nut drive was Arkansas Jericho fan Kevin Russell. He explains, "They (executives) got us hooked on this great drama... They make you actually care about the characters and then they pull the plug.

"The bottom line is to make a statement. We're tired of the networks telling us what to watch."

NutsOnline.com's Jeffrey Braverman is grateful for the business. He tells ABC, "I had never watched Jericho and I was brushing this off at first. I didn't understand the magnitude of this."

But Braverman quickly realized what was going on and has now added a section to his Web site, allowing Jericho fans to target their nut orders.

The film, starring Johnny Depp as the woozy pirate Captain Jack Sparrow, nearly sold out late-night showings at U.S. cinemas on Thursday night for a total of $17 million.

Overseas, Wednesday and Thursday night showings scored $41.1 million, Disney said.

The film was released in 52 countries and territories in addition to the United States and that release widened to 102 countries on Friday.

At World's End will be opening in a record 4,362 North American theatres, about 110 more than Spider-Man 3 and about 200 more than DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc.'s Shrek the Third, which set an opening-weekend record last week for an animated film at $122 million. The figures come from Media by Numbers, a box office tracking firm.

Mark Zoradi, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures marketing and Distribution, said U.S. exit surveys "gave the film among the highest numbers in Disney's history and placed it well above comparable scores" for the first two Pirates films.

Romanian Drama Scoops Cannes' Top Prize

Gus Van Sant

HOLLYWOOD - Romanian film 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days was awarded the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival Sunday.

The drama, which explores issues of abortion and repression in 1980s communist Romania, beat competition from Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof, Gus Van Sant's Paranoid Park, Wong Kar Wai's My Blueberry Nights, and the Coen Brothers' No Country for Old Men to win the prestigious award.

Accepting the prize, director Cristian Mungiu said, "This story, in which we believe so much, is going to reach lots of people now.

"I also hope that this award that I am getting tonight is going to be good news for small filmmakers from small countries because it looks like you don't necessarily need a big budget and a lot of stars."

The jury, headed by British director Stephen Frears, awarded two jury prizes to Persepolis, a film about a young woman growing up during the Iranian revolution, and Silent Light, which explores a husband's infidelity in a Mennonite community based in Mexico.

Meanwhile, former Palme d'Or winner Van Sant received the 60th Anniversary Prize for Paranoid Park, while Julian Schnabel was honored with the Best Director prize for The Diving Bell and Butterfly.
