Rosie O'Donnell Quits 'The View'

Rosie O'Donnell

HOLLYWOOD - Actress-turned-TV personality Rosie O'Donnell has quit her job as a host of talk show The View after a vicious war of words with a fellow presenter hit the headlines earlier this week.

The A League of Their Own star clashed with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck on Wednesday's program after the pair fell out over their political views, and she has not returned to the daytime show since.

She appeared on a show that aired yesterday, but that was taped on Tuesday.

In a posting on her blog after the on-air fight, she told fans she didn't know when she'd be back, but now the show's producers have confirmed O'Donnell has quit.

On her blog late yesterday, O'Donnell said, "I have said all I needed," and posted a scrapbook tribute to her View co-hosts as a touching swansong video.

The outspoken TV star had already chosen to depart the talk show when her yearlong contract expires next month, but has now decided to leave The View early.

Network President Brian Frons at ABC revealed yesterday, "We had hoped that Rosie would be with us until the end of her contract three weeks from now, but Rosie has informed us that she would like an early leave.

"Therefore, we part ways, thank her for her tremendous contribution to The View and wish her well."

O'Donnell, who sent ratings for the daytime show soaring with outspoken attacks on Donald Trump and American Idol, says, "It's been an amazing year and I love all three women (on the show)."
