Lindsay Lohan Cited for Driving Under Influence

Lindsay Lohan

LOS ANGELES - Actress Lindsay Lohan has been cited for driving under the influence after losing control of her Mercedes convertible, the Beverly Hills Police Department said on Saturday.

Lohan was involved in a single-car traffic accident at about 5:30 a.m., and was cited after being admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Sgt. Mike Foxen said.

She could face further charges, after a substance suspected of being cocaine was found in the car, Officer Mitch McCann said later at a news conference held at the police department.

Foxen said Lohan was arrested, but not taken into custody, after police located her at the hospital.

The actress, who underwent a stint in rehab earlier this year, was given a citation and a court date, Foxen said, adding that he did not know the date.

Lohan's arrest was first reported on the Web site of celebrity photo agency X17 Inc.

Representatives of the actress did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Lohan, 20, shot to stardom in Disney movies like The Parent Trap and Freaky Friday, and as her fame grew, so did persistent hounding from the paparazzi, especially after she became well known for club hopping in Los Angeles.

In July last year, the producer of Georgia Rule, wrote a letter to Lohan in which he called her behavior "discourteous, irresponsible and unprofessional" because she was showing up late to the movie's set. Georgia Rule, in which Lohan portrays a troubled young woman, opened earlier this month.

Lohan reportedly admitted herself in January to the exclusive Wonderland Center in West Hollywood, which is described as a residential treatment and detoxification facility providing services for alcohol, substance abuse and relapse-prevention programs.

The actress said in December that had been going to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for about year.
