Disney Becomes First Studio to Ban Movie Smoking

Good Night, And Good Luck Movie Stills

HOLLYWOOD - Disney studio heads have set a precedent in Hollywood, moving to ban smoking from all their films.

The movie executives insist no one will light a cigarette, cigar, joint or pipe in Disney-branded family films, and they're encouraging the bosses at distribution partners Touchstone and Miramax to follow suit.

Furthermore, studio bigwigs will also place anti-smoking public service announcements on DVDs of any future films that feature cigarette smoking.

Recent research shows that 90 percent of all films depict smoking and children with the highest exposure to smoking in movies were nearly three times more likely to start smoking.
