Sony Accuses Disney of Exaggerating 'Pirates' Sales

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End: Elizabeth Swann

HOLLYWOOD - Hollywood studio Sony has accused Walt Disney Pictures of over-exaggerating sales of the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Sony claims box office figures for Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End included a seventh day instead of the usual six.

The third installment of the swashbuckling series grossed $401 million, but Sony--the company behind Spider-Man 3--claims that with a seventh day taken into account, Spider-Man outperformed the Pirates sequel with $418 million.

Walt Disney Pictures admitted they included figures for worldwide previews in the total, but insisted this contribution to the final figure was minimal.
