Brown and Belafonte were married in a secret Las Vegas ceremony in June and his ex-partner Nicole Contreras hopes he doesn't display the same violent tendencies in his new relationship--she was drunkenly beaten by him.
Belafonte admitted attacking Contreras at her Beverly Hills home in May 2003. He was charged with battery and court papers filed 24 hours later accused him of "willfully and unlawfully" using violence against her.
Belafonte pleaded no contest to the charge but escaped jail with a suspended sentence and probation. He was ordered to attend a yearlong domestic violence program, which he only completed in 2005, after twice being thrown out for absenteeism.
But a forgiving Contreras is optimistic Belafonte has reformed since the incident, saying, "The past is the past. He's a changed person now."
The couple was together for five years and shares a daughter. They split in 2003.
