Paris: I'll ditch my dumb act

HEIRESS Paris Hilton yesterday spoke from behind bars to vow she would no longer "act dumb".

She rang a US talk show host to open her heart on her troubled prison stay.

The hotel heiress said the tough jail regime had taught her the error of her ways.

Paris, 26, said: "I used to act dumb. That act is no longer cute. Now, I would like to make a difference. God has given me this new chance."

Paris told ABC’s Barbara Walters, 77, of the torment of her first stint in jail before being released then hauled back in.

She said: "I was not eating or sleeping. I was severely depressed and felt as if I was in a cage. It was a truly horrible experience." Walters was interviewing Paris’s mum Kathy Hilton, 48, by phone, when Paris rang her mum and asked to speak to the presenter.

Walters then agreed to take a reverse charge call from the prison to get the inside track on Paris, jailed for breaking her drive-drive probation.

The conversation was not believed to have been taped. It will be discussed on Walters’ TV show, The View.

Yesterday we revealed how Paris had bizarrely told the world to forget about her and worry about soldiers in Iraq.

Her sister Nicky, 23, who hit the shops for the second day running yesterday, also visited Paris in prison and said: "She’s being strong."
