Cuba Gooding Jr. at the 2006 TNT Black Movie Awards. Wiltern Theatre, Los Angeles, CA. 10-15-06

HOLLYWOOD - Movie star Cuba Gooding Jr. turned real-life hero last week when he helped save the life of a gunshot victim.

The Oscar winner rushed to the aid of the bleeding man, believed to be in his 20s, after hearing gunshots from his car, parked outside a Hollywood restaurant.

An eyewitness tells the New York Daily News, "Cuba was picking up dinner for his family on the night of Memorial Day. He saw a young kid holding his head and walked toward him. The kid was bleeding from his neck and collapsed."

After calling for towels to stem the victim's bleeding, Gooding Jr. hailed a passing police car and waited at the scene until an ambulance arrived.

Gooding Jr.'s rep, Nancy Kane, confirmed the story. It is believed the victim's condition has improved in hospital.
