Who'd have thought when she got together with Brad Pitt that within just three years Angelina Jolie would go from sexy superbitch to saint?

And, if the rumours flying round Hollywood are to be believed, she could now be looking to dump him.

Last month, just a week after adopting three-year-old Pax from Vietnam, 31-year-old Angelina headed off to Chicago to work on a new movie. Brad, 43, was left behind in LA with Pax and their other children Maddox, five, Zahara, two, and Shiloh, nearly one.

A friend of the star reveals: 'She took a couple of years off to have baby Shiloh and be a good little housewife for Brad. I'm not knocking it – they were genuinely in love and she takes her responsibilities to her adopted children very seriously. But now she wants to get back to work.'

The birth of Brad and Angelina's daughter Shiloh last year seems to be the point where things went wrong.

'Brad had wanted a family for ages and he adored Maddox and then Zahara when she was adopted – he still does,' says the friend.

'It's ironic that having their own baby could've caused conflict, but it's true. I think it's suddenly hit Brad that he's a family man. He's baffled that Angelina, who fiercely loves the children, is able to compartmentalise her life so easily. For him, it's overwhelming.'

A few weeks ago, Brad tried to persuade Angelina to slow down. But the discussion escalated into a furious row. 'Brad just lost it,' continues the pal. 'He yelled: “That's it, I don't love you – you're not the woman I fell in love with.”'

However, it seems Angelina doesn't care what anyone thinks. 'She's cut her dad Jon Voight out of her life and she's used to people saying horrible things about her,' says the friend. 'It's water off a duck's back to her. She's tough as hell.'
