Al Sharpton Calls for Imus' Return to Radio

HOLLYWOOD - Civil rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton has made a controversial u-turn over his treatment of shamed DJ Don Imus--calling for the star to be reinstated as a broadcaster.

Imus was axed from CBS Radio in April after he called the mostly black Rutgers University women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos" on his radio show, with Sharpton instrumental in the protest that led to the firing.

But Sharpton believes Imus should be allowed to make a return to radio--on the condition he would no longer use insults concerning race and gender.

He says, "He has a right to make a living. We had never asked him to never work again."

Martin Garbus, Imus' attorney, declined to comment.

Earlier this month, comedian/actor Chris Rock urged for "calm" over the treatment of Imus.
