No Charges in Oprah Winfrey Case

Oprah Winfrey

HOLLYWOOD - A man who tried to bribe talk-show host Oprah Winfrey for $1.5 million has had his charges dismissed by a Chicago court.

Keifer Bonvillain was accused of bribing the media tycoon with information that "would embarrass her if it were made public."

He was charged in a federal court with trying to extort money by threatening to injure a person's reputation, but the case was dismissed by prosecutors today.

In return, Bonvillain will be placed under one year's supervision during which he must hold a job or attend classes, complete 50 hours of community service and pay $3,000 in compensation to the FBI.
