LAS VEGAS, Nevada (September 29, 2007) – Pamela Anderson and Rick Salomon applied for and were granted a marriage license in Las Vegas on Saturday afternoon Access Hollywood has learned.

Access Hollywood’s affiliate KVBC in Las Vegas, confirmed the news Saturday.

Earlier in the month, Anderson told TV talk show host Ellen DeGeneres that she was “engaged.”

Though the former “Baywatch” star declined to reveal the identity of her suitor to Ellen, she did note he was a poker player.

Anderson was previously married to Kid Rock and before that, to Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee.

Salomon was previously married to “90210” actress Shannen Doherty. He also rose to infamy as Paris Hilton’s bedfellow in her sex video, “One Night In Paris.”

Anderson and Salomon have known each other for 15 years, according to Pam, who noted the fact on her Web site blog, this past Thursday.

In another posting --on September 26, Anderson wrote that her life was going well and hinted that romance was on the cards, though she did not claim it was with Salomon.

“I’m in love,” she posted. “And my work is fun and creative. I’m healthy . . . I’m having the best time in my life.”

'The Game Plan' Rocks The Box Office

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (September 30, 2007) — Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had the winning game plan at the box office. Disney’s “The Game Plan,” starring Johnson as a football quarterback whose bachelor lifestyle is disrupted by the arrival of a daughter he never knew he had, opened as the top weekend flick with $22.7 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The weekend had looked like it would be a showdown between “The Game Plan” and Universal’s Middle East thriller “The Kingdom” which stars Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Garner as members of a U.S. team investigating a terrorist attack in Saudi Arabia.

But “The Kingdom” fell short, debuting at No. 2 with a solid $17.7 million.
The previous weekend’s top movie, Sony’s action tale “Resident Evil: Extinction,” fell a steep 66 percent from its opening-weekend gross, finishing in third place with $8 million and raising its total to $36.8 million.

Johnson was the latest action hero aiming to broaden his audience with a family film. With a PG rating, “The Game Plan” took advantage of a long dry spell for kid-friendly movies, as parents with children made up two-thirds of the audience.

“There was definitely pent-up demand for people who don’t necessarily want to go to the heavy R-rated films,” said Chuck Viane, head of distribution for Disney. “The entire general audience has been underserved lately.”

“The Kingdom” faced heavy competition from other violent R-rated films, among them “3:10 to Yuma,” “The Brave One” and “Eastern Promises.” Though not an overtly political film, “The Kingdom” also had to test audience interest for action tales set against the war on terrorism.

“If you’re going to tell stories like this, you’re going to tell stories of what’s actually going on in our world. It’s very difficult, challenging subject matter,” said Nikki Rocco, head of distribution for Universal. “Either you’re going to like this kind of movie or you’re not.”

In limited release, Fox Searchlight’s “The Darjeeling Limited” opened strongly, taking in $140,000 at two New York City theaters on Saturday and Sunday, following its premiere Friday at the New York Film Festival.

Directed by Wes Anderson (“The Royal Tenenbaums“), the film stars Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman as brothers on an odyssey across India.
Focus Features’ World War II saga “Lust, Caution” also did well in its debut at one New York City theater, taking in $61,688. From director Ang Lee (“Brokeback Mountain“), the NC-17-rated “Lust, Caution” features scenes of explicit sex as a Chinese woman goes undercover in a plot to kill a man collaborating with invading Japanese forces.

Both films expand to more theaters Friday.

It was the second straight weekend that Hollywood business was down after a summer of record revenue. The top 12 movies took in $76.7 million, down 11 percent from the same weekend last year, when “Open Season” was the No. 1 movie with $23.6 million.

“What goes up must come down,” said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Media By Numbers. “It would be really difficult to maintain three, four months of up box office, so this was kind of inevitable. It was quite a strong fall last year, so we’re having a little trouble competing.”

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC. Final figures will be released Monday.

Bond's Miss Moneypenny, Lois Maxwell Dies

LONDON, England (September 30, 2007) — Lois Maxwell, who starred as Miss Moneypenny in 14 James Bond movies, has died, the British Broadcasting Corp. reported Sunday. She was 80.

The Canadian-born actress starred alongside Sean Connery in the first James Bond movie, “Dr. No,” in 1962 as the secretary to M, the head of the secret service.

She died Saturday night at Fremantle Hospital near her home in Perth, Australia, the BBC cited a hospital official as saying.

Bond star Roger Moore said she was suffering from cancer.

“It’s rather a shock,” Moore, who had known her since they were students at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1944, told BBC radio.

“She was always fun and she was wonderful to be with,” he said.

Born Lois Hooker in Ontario, Canada, in 1927, she began her acting on radio before moving to Britain with the Entertainment Corps of the Canadian army at the age of 15, the BBC said.

In the late 1940s, she moved to Hollywood and won a Golden Globe for her part in the Shirley Temple comedy “That Hagen Girl.”

After working in Italy, she returned to Britain in the mid-1950s.

In addition to her 14 appearances as Miss Moneypenny, she also acted in Stanley Kubrick’s “Lolita” and worked on TV shows including “The Saint” “The Baron, Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased),” and “The Persuaders!,” the BBC said.

She was 58 when she appeared in her final Bond film, 1985’s “A View To A Kill.”

She was replaced by 26-year-old Caroline Bliss for “The Living Daylights.”

Her last film was a 2001 thriller called “The Fourth Angel,” alongside Jeremy Irons.

Keith Urban Crashes Motorcycle After Being Chased By Photographer

SYDNEY, Australia (October 1, 2007) – Keith Urban was involved in a motorcycle accident on Sunday after the country star was allegedly being chased bya paparazzo.

In a statement released to Access Hollywood, Urban said he was headed to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting on his motorcycle in Sydney when he found himself being pursued by a photographer.

“Today’s incident was the result of one person’s desire to do his job and my desire to maintain my privacy. Some have already attempted to inflate the facts, but the reality is this; while out riding to an AA meeting, a time when my privacy is especially important to me, I felt myself being pursued. I sped up, and in an effort to elude an oncoming car which was making an illegal u-turn, saw no choice but to drop my bike,” Urban said in the statement. “In actual fact, my pursuer came to my assistance, without taking photos, and helped me from the road. I returned home, got my car, and continued on my way.”

Urban entered a rehab facility for alcohol treatment in October 2006. He completed the program in January 2007.

Michael Lohan Heads Back To Utah For More 'Quality Time' With Lindsay

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (October 1, 2007) – Michael Lohan is headed back to Utah to once again reunite with daughter Lindsay, Michael confirmed to Access Hollywood.

Michael is scheduled to arrive in Utah on Monday night. He and Lindsay will then spend five days together at a secluded Utah lodge.

“We’re going to spend some quality time together,” Michael told Access.

In an e-mail to People magazine, Lindsay’s mom Dina was pleased her ex-husband would get the chance to spend time with their daughter.

“It can only help her recovery. It’s time to mend,” the e-mail stated. “He is visiting Lindsay alone because we are giving her dad a chance to make amends.”

This will mark Michael’s second trip to Utah since Lindsay entered the Cirque Lodge rehab center on August 3.

On September 5, Michael flew to visit his daughter. It was the first time the two had seen each other since 2004.

“It was like not a day passed,” Michael said of the meeting. “Lindsay knows the truth. She knows that I love her and what kind of a father I was and I’m sure she’ll set the record straight on that at some time.”

Michael also was proud to report the change he sees in his daughter since entering the rehab center.

“She is at a better place in her heart and mind than I have ever seen her in her life. Ever. She is stronger. She is more settled. She is focused and she is just concentrating on living the right kind of a life,” he noted.

The “American Idol” judge, who is dating restaurateur J.T. Torregiani, said she hopes to bring a gurgling little tot into the world.

“That’s the next step in my life,” Abdul told USA Today. “Definitely within the next two years. I thought by now I’d have three grown children.”

The 45-year-old former pop star hinted she might use the healthcare system to have her own littlie mini Paula or perhaps, Paul.

“With modern medicine, people are having kids in their 40s and even up until their late 40s,” she noted. “In their 50s, they’re having their second child.”

David Letterman Probes Paris Hilton On Jail Experience

NEW YORK, NY (October 1, 2007) – Paris Hilton missed out on a scheduled “Late Show With David Letterman” appearance earlier this summer in order to serve time in jail for a probation violation. When she finally made it to the late night talk show this past Friday night, David Letterman didn’t let her forget the reason she missed her original appearance.

After a couple of quick opening questions, Letterman went straight into probing Paris about her visit to the Century Regional Detention Center in Lynnwood, California, this past June.

“How’d you like being in jail?” he asked.

“Not too much,” Paris replied.

Letterman carried on with a series of slammer-related questions including what jail was like.

“Well, obviously it was a very traumatic experience, but I did it. I feel like I can do anything now,” Paris told David.

As the interview pressed on however, it appeared there was one thing Paris couldn’t do – tackle more questions about jail. As he jumped in with humorous inquiries about jail food, Paris began to kick one of her legs and squirmed in the guest seat.

Paris Gets Grilled On Letterman

“What would a breakfast be?” Letterman asked.

“Like a hard-boiled egg and an orange,” she said.

“What was dinner usually?” he continued.

“Jail mystery meat.” Paris replied with a smile and more leg kicking. “It was pretty bad.”

As Letterman continued to probe, asking if the experience in jail was “ugly,” Paris quickly noted she wanted to change the subject.

“I’ve moved on with my life so I don’t really want to talk about it any more,” she said.

Letterman however, did.

“This is where you and I are different, because [that’s] all I wanna talk about,” he said to the heiress as the studio audience erupted in laughter.

“Have you, did you make any friends while you were in jail?” he continued.

“I’m not answering any more questions about it. I’m here for my clothing line and my movie and my perfume. I’m not here to talk about that. I’m moving on,” she replied.

After a few more uncomfortable minutes, Letterman finally switched subjects and Paris was able to promote her projects including a new movie she is filming in Toronto – “Repo! The Genetic Opera.”

Britney's New Lawyer Confirms She's Driving Without A California License

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (October 1, 2007) – Britney Spears has a new lawyer who will defend her in her criminal hit and run case.

Lawyer J. Michael Flanagan confirmed to Access Hollywood that he is representing the star.

The Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office filed one count of hit and run causing property damage and one count of driving without a valid California Driver’s license on September 21 against Britney.

Flanagan confirmed to Access Hollywood that Spears does not have a California driver’s license.

“Britney is eligible for a license, she does not have one at this time,” he told Access. “Once she applies for one, I think the matter will be resolved and resolved quickly.”

As for the hit and run charge, which also stems from an incident this past summer when Brit hit a parked car and left the scene without leaving a note or attempting to contact the other vehicle’s owner, Flanagan said his firm is looking into the matter.

“This case is still in the investigatory stages. We are trying to work out a resolution on the matter, and trying to do it privately,” he said.

The charges filed against Britney each carry a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Britney Spears Loses Physical Custody Of Children

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (October 1, 2007) – Britney Spears has lost physical custody of her children, Access Hollywood has learned.

According to court documents obtained by Access, Kevin Federline will be granted physicalcustody of the couple’s two kids – Sean Preston and Jayden James – on October 3.

Kevin, referred to in the document as the “respondent,” will retain physical custody “until further notice of the Court.”

The court ruling states:

“Respondent’s oral motion pursuant to section 214FC is granted and the matter proceeds as a closed hearing. The court and all parties present confer on the record that the court makes its order as fully reflected in the notes of the official court reporter. The court’s prior order including the orders made on September 28, 2007 remain in full force and effect with the following modification: Respondent is to retain physical custody of the minor children on Wednesday October 3rd, 2007 at 12 PM until further order of the Court. Respondent’s ex-parte application is noticed for October 3, 2007 at 1:30 PM in Department 88.”

The ruling was issued by Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon, who two weeks ago ordered Britney to undergo random drug and alcohol testing twice a week after finding evidence of “habitual, frequent and continuous use of controlled substances and alcohol.”

No word on whether Brit violated any of his orders, leading to today’s ruling.

The next hearing is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Access has learned Gloria Allred will hold a press conference later this afternoon with former Britney bodyguard Tony Barretto “to react to today’s court decision to remove custody of the children from Britney Spears.”

But while Barretto has been bashing Britney in the press, his words likely had little to do with today’s ruling.

A source told Access that the “order to show cause” filing Kevin’s attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan delivered to Commissioner Gordon in mid-August, did not include a letter from the case’s secret witness, which later was revealed to be Barretto.

The source said the filing was a one-and-a-half inch thick document containing a multitude of offenses by Britney.

Beckhams Return To LA After Visiting Dad In Hospital

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (October 1, 2007) – Galaxy soccer star David Beckham and his wife Victoria have returned to Los Angeles, following a trip to Britain last week to visit his hospitalized father.

David’s dad, Ted Beckham, suffered a heart attack last Wednesday. His son flew home the next day, to be at his father’s bedside.

Now, People reports the elder Becks is in “stable” condition at East London’s Chest Hospital.

David’s spokesperson Simon Oliviera told Britain’s Daily Star on Saturday evening that Becks’ dad was doing well.

“Ted is making good progress every day. He is chatting away to family and is in good spirits,” Oliviera said.

The next LA Galaxy match will take place October 7 against the Houston Dynamos.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (September 18, 2007) – Vanessa Hudgens branded the headline grabbing activities of peers like Britney Spears “stupid,” in an interview on “The Tyra Banks Show.”

Hudgens was asked by an audience member on the September 17 episode of Tyra’s show, how the activities of her fellow young stars like Brit and Lindsay affect her personally.

“I honestly just think it’s stupid,” she told the audience member. “I mean it’s easy to stay out of those situations. I really think it’s easy to stay out of those situations, you just have to be smart about your decisions.”

Hudgens’ comments were taped prior to photos of the 18-year-old appearing in the buff, surfacing on the web.

'High School Musical 2' Premiere Q&A

Earlier this month, personal photographs of Vanessa were circulated on the internet. Her publicist confirmed the pictures were of the “High School Musical” star, in a statement.

“This was a photo which was taken privately,” a statement from Hudgens’ rep read. “It is a personal matter and it is unfortunate that this has become public.”

Shortly thereafter, Hudgens herself apologized in a statement to her fans.

“I want to apologize to my fans, whose support and trust means the world to me,” the starlet wrote in a statement. “I am embarrassed over this situation and regret having ever taken these photos. I am thankful for the support of my family and friends.”

Disney, the makers of “High School Musical” and “High School Musical 2,” said Hudgens was still in negotiations for the third installment of the popular series, despite the controversy over the photos.

“Vanessa has apologized for what was obviously a lapse in judgment,” Disney Channel spokeswoman Patti McTeague told the Associated Press. “We hope she’s learned a valuable lesson.”

As for the rest of the actress’s appearance on Tyra’s show, Hudgens revealed she likes to keep her personal life to herself, but the supermodel still probed about Zac Efron.

“It’s fun to work with him. He’s really sweet and like, singing all the songs is always a blast,” is all Hudgens would offer about her boyfriend.

Until, that is, Tyra asked if he was a good kisser.

“Mmmmmm,” she said dreamily. “I’m keeping my mouth shut!”

One thing Hudgens didn’t keep her mouth shut about, is her celebrity crush – Matt Damon.

“I love Matt Damon and I was like 14 years old and I met him ‘cause I was doing a press junket for an old movie I did called ‘Thunderbirds,’’’ she recalled. “He walked past my door and I completely freaked out, like I did to him what my fans do to me. I was like, ‘oh my gosh, I love you so much, can I have your autograph!’

“He gives me his autograph, my mom comes over with the camera and I was like ‘oh my gosh can I have a picture with you too?’ And it was kind of sad because a whole bunch of people do it to me and I was doing it him,” she blushed.

NEW YORK, New York (September 18, 2007) – As was announced on Monday, Barry Manilow did not make his appearance on “The View” Tuesday due to differences with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

And while the he said/they said of who exactly cancelled Manilow’s appearance continues, Barbara Walters discussed the issue with Bill Geddie during the launch of Walters’ weekly SIRIUS satellite radio show “Barbara Live” on Monday night.

While Manilow claims he backed out of his scheduled gig when the show wouldn’t accommodate his request to remove Hasselbeck, sources close to “The View” claimed the “Copacabana” singer was “lying,” and that it was the show who told Manilow not to show up.

On Walters’ radio show, Geddie, who co-executive produces “The View” with Walters, maintains it was the show’s decision for Manilow not to appear.

“He said, ‘I’ll do Barbara and Whoopi or I’ll do Whoopi and Sherri or some combination, but I won’t sit with Elisabeth,’ and I said ‘Well, then you won’t be on the show. It’s that simple,’” Geddie explained. “And that was the end of it. He’s not going to call the shots. You’re not going to tell me how to produce the show.”

And while Walters said she understands Manilow’s friendship with Rosie, at the same time, her show is all about promoting different lines of thought.

“If you disagree with somebody’s political point of view you don’t come on? We’re called ‘The View’ because we have different points of view,” Walters said. “Also, Elisabeth Hasselbeck is not an enemy of Rosie’s. None of us are. If Elisabeth disagrees with Rosie, and Rosie disagrees with Elisabethnobody is to my knowledge is taking sides.”

On Monday, Manilow posted the following message on his Web site:

“I wanted to let you know that I will no longer be on The View tomorrow as scheduled. I had made a request that I be interviewed by Joy, Barbara or Whoopi, but not Elisabeth Hasselback [sic]. Unfortunately, the show was not willing to accommodate this simple request so I bowed out. It’s really too bad because I’ve always been a big supporter of the show, but I cannot compromise my beliefs. The good news is that I will be on a whole slew of other shows promoting the new album so I hope you can catch me on those.”

However, sources close to “The View” insisted he is “lying” and was making a bigger issue out of it only to promote his new album.

Manilow has been making the rounds promoting his upcoming “Greatest Songs of the Seventies,” which is in stores today.

As Walters and Geddie wrapped their chat about the singer, Geddie said ultimately when you come on “The View,” it’s an all or nothing scenario.

“He’s always seemed like a nice guy, but I don’t get him on this. We’re ‘The View,’ we have people with different opinions,” Geddie concluded. “You sit with one of us, you sit with all of us.”

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (September 18, 2007) – Three years ago today, September 18, they surprised us all with a wedding. Now, the battle between Britney Spears and Kevin Federline takes a stunning turn.

One new claim, made in OK! magazine, is that Britney is battling an eating disorder.

A source told the magazine that Spears will do anything to lose weight, including starving herself as well as binging and purging.

A pal reportedly told OK! that Spears said, “I’ll starve myself because I’m fat.”

OK! magazine’s source also alleges Britney is addicted to diet pills and combines them with large amounts of coffee and RedBull.

Britney's Biggest Fan Speaks Out

Then, there’s the big guy – Britney’s former bodyguard Tony Baretto.

“He became very concerned about the children and their safety,” Baretto’s lawyer, Gloria Allred said at a press conference Monday.

Greeted by a media mob, Baretto, showed up for a child custody hearing in LA between Spears and Federline, accompanied by Allred and ready to testify against Britney.

“Our client was prepared to testify on issues of nudity by Ms. Spears, drug use and safety issues involving the children,” Allred said.

These serious allegations could lead to Britney losing custody of her children sources have speculated.

Baretto remained mum while Allred spoke to the press. Baretto, who held hands with his wife during the press conference, worked for Britney earlier this year.

“He was terminated because he did not hear her when she asked him to pick up her hat,” Allred claimed.

When a reporter asked why it has taken so long for Baretto to come forward if he was concerned about the children, Allred said issues of safety were involved.

“Privacy,” she answered. “We have been concerned about his privacy and safety. We didn’t want people coming to his home and you know, disturbing his young children.”

Laura Wasser, Brit’s lawyer at the time, attended the hearing and branded Baretto, “not a reliable witness.”

On Monday both Wasser and management company – The Firm, parted ways with the star.

Meanwhile, the kids were spending time with Grandma, Britney’s mother Lynn. Paparazzi captured her taking a stroll with them, near Kevin Federline’s home.

Monday night, Britney’s sister Jamie Lynn Spears attended a concert by Britney’s ex – Justin Timberlake with her dad. She had no comment on Baretto’s allegations.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (September 18, 2007) – Longtime PETA supporter Alicia Silverstone has taken off her clothes in a new ad campaign for the organization.

In a series of print and video spots, the very naked (though covered where it counts) actress poses, sprawled out in front of a pool.

In the print version, the words “I’m a Alicia Silverstone, and I’m a vegetarian,” appear above the nude actress. Silverstone says the same words in the video rendition of the ad, also noting that “there’s nothing in the world that’s changed me as much as this. I feel so much better and have so much more energy.”

The PETA-Silverstone campaign will air on Food Network, Lifetime and E! in Houston before expanding nationwide.

PETA chose Houston for the campaign because they noted in a statement, “it repeatedly ranks among the least healthy in the country.”

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (September 18, 2007) – When it comes to the most desirable Hollywood stars, it appears George Clooney and Jessica Alba are second to none.

In a poll conducted by Yahoo! Personals, singles were asked which celebrity male and female they would most like to date.

Gentleman George topped the male list, with the forever-shirtless Matthew McConaughey coming in as a close second. Other stars who find themselves the object of desire by female singles were hip hop impresario Kanye West, singer Ricky Martin, baseball star Derek Jeter and tennis pro Andy Roddick.

When single males were asked which celebrity starlet they would most like to find themselves in the company of, FHM’s 2007 “Sexiest Woman Alive” Jessica Alba was the top pick.

Jennifer Aniston finished second, followed by Queen Latifah, Jessica Simpson, tennis beauty Maria Sharapova, Sandra Oh and “Top Chef” vixen Padma Lakshmi.

Susan Mernit, Yahoo! Personals’ online dating expert offers her insight on what it is about George and Jessica that put them at the top of their class.

“It is obvious that both George Clooney and Jessica Alba are top of mind when it comes to ‘sexiest celebrity,‘ given their reigning titles for People magazine and FHM magazine, respectively,” Susan said. “In addition to people finding them physically appealing, it doesn’t hurt that they have both maintained a clean reputation while living in front of the cameras. That combination is most likely why our survey’s respondents find them so desirable.”

Kanye West Headed To Chart Victory Over 50 Cent

NEW YORK, NY (September 18, 2007) — It’s not like Kanye West needed an ego boost, but here it comes: Sales figures appear to confirm his “Graduation” album outsold 50 Cent’s “Curtis” in the much-hyped rap sales showdown.

Although Nielsen SoundScan figures for the albums’ first-week sales were to be released Tuesday night, West’s label was already proclaiming victory.

But West was hardly rubbing it in 50’s face. In fact, he said he was humbled by the apparent win.

“It feels overwhelming,” West told The Associated Press, as he walked to Def Jam’s offices on Tuesday afternoon. “Everyone is coming up to me and telling me how proud they are of me.”

“We’re not gloating,” Def Jam President Jay-Z told AP. “He’s celebrating his win. ... in his mind, he believed he could win the whole time.”

Both albums appeared to have sold well over 500,000 copies since being released Sept. 11, but 50’s performance was still a considerable letdown. His last album, 2005’s “The Massacre,” sold 1.1million in its first week.

Last month, 50 didn’t think of West as much of a competitor: “It’s great marketing on Def Jam’s part, by putting us out there at the same time and make like we can actually be compared on some level,” he told The Associated Press. In another interview, he said he would retire if West outsold him.

But while West is enjoying a No. 2 position on the charts with his hit “Stronger,” 50 has struggled to connect with radio. None of his songs have matched past smashes like “In Da Club“; even his single “Ayo Technology,” featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland, is languishing at No. 19.

50’s album was originally scheduled to be released in June on Interscope Records, a division of Universal Music Group, but was pushed back to Sept. 11. Soon after, Kanye West, whose album was supposed to come out sometime in late summer, pushed his date to Sept. 11 as well. But Antonio “L.A.” Reid, chairman of Island Def Jam, also a division of Universal, says it wasn’t initially intended to be a jab at 50.

“The decision was really driven by the (MTV Video Music Awards), because the VMAs were on Sept. 9 ... we wanted to use it as a launching pad again for this album,” he said.

West said it was his idea to go directly against 50.

“I was the underdog because I sold less records in the past, so it was a win-win for me,” he said. “If I lost, everyone would be happy that I even went up against him. People have this perception of me being arrogant, but would an arrogant person risk the chance of coming in the second spot just to be a part of history? To me, it’s more about fans and the entertainment value and good music.”

It ended up the music industry version of Ali-Frazier, with the avalanche of pre-fight hype to match. 50 routinely trash-talked West, but it seemed to be in good fun: The pair appeared on the MTV Video Music Awards and BET’s “106 & Park” together, and on the cover or Rolling Stone. Both admitted the battle was a great marketing tool.

“The rivalry helped both of them” said Jay-Z. “It was definitely one of those moments in the game that was exciting, everybody could pick a side and weigh in on and have an opinion ... it garnered a lot of attention.”

West said the quality of his music was the key reason he apparently prevailed: “I think my music is really inspirational and I really made it for the people. I really understood that in this Internet age people are their own superstars ... the best bet that we had was to make a soundtrack to their own lives.”

West said he was especially touched that he had such a groundswell of support given some of the negative media attention he’s gotten of late; namely, his meltdown at the VMAs after being shut out (though he poked fun at himself during Sunday’s Emmy Awards).

“With all the negativity that the press tries to put on me, this perception that they try to create of me being a really bad person. For so many fans to go out and say, ‘We still want to buy Kanye’s album,‘ means a lot to me,” he says. “This is a really pivotal moment for me emotionally.”

50 Cent, who’s planning a tour for his album, was conciliatory: “I am very excited to have participated in one of the biggest album release weeks in the last two years. Collectively, we have sold hundreds of thousands of units in our debut week. This marks a great moment for hip hop music, one that will go down in history.

Whether he would make good on his threat to retire wasn’t addressed; Reid said he hoped he wouldn’t: “I’d like to see him making music for the next 25 years, he’s that talented.”

Jay-Z, who is featured on a new 50 Cent remix of his hit “I Get Money,” said this setback could actually benefit 50 in the long run.

“The worst thing about success is it makes you complacent. I think when you face any type of adversity it makes you dig deep ... everyone goes through it, all the greats go through it,” he said. “In his music, he hadn’t gone through any type of adversity. ... he’ll come back and make great music.”

If so, 50 may end up being a thorn in Def Jam’s side. In a recent interview, a miffed 50 threatened to release projects whenever Def Jam had a high-priority release.

In light of West’s victory, Jay-Z considered that threat a good thing.

“We would really appreciate that,” he quipped. “If he can do that, I will fax over our release dates effective immediately.”

Britney Spears Ordered To Undergo Drug, Alcohol Testing

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (September 18, 2007) – Britney Spears has been ordered to undergo random drug and alcohol testing twice a week, Access Hollywood has learned.

In court documents obtained by Access, a judge ordered the tests for the pop star, stating “Based on the Evidence presented, the Court finds that there is a habitual, frequent and continuous use of controlled substances and alcohol by the Petitioner” (Spears).

However, the court also said the results of those tests will not be made public.

Britney has also been ordered to meet with a “parenting coach” at least eight hours a week, who will observe her interaction with her two sons – Sean Preston and Jayden James.

The parenting coach will evaluate Brit’s motherly skills and will file a written progress report to the courts on October 22.

Both Britney and Kevin have also been ordered “to engage in joint in co-parenting counseling.”

In addition, the court mandated that “neither party shall consume alcohol, or other non-prescription controlled substances” while with the kids or within 12 hours immediately prior to having custody of the kids.

Contrary to earlier online reports that suggested Kevin would be granted temporary physical custody of the kids, the court declined to modify the existing agreement, which means the current 50/50 split will remain in effect for now.

Both parents have also been ordered to refrain from “using corporal punishment” in dealing with the kids.

The matter will now continue as a closed-door hearing. The next court date is set for November 26.

Vanessa Hudgens Sued For $150K In Unpaid Legal Fees

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (September 18, 2007) – As if her nude photo scandal wasn’t enough, “High School Musical” star Vanessa Hudgens now finds herself being sued.

According to court papers obtained by Access Hollywood, a former lawyer for the “HSM” star says she owes him $150,000 in legal fees.

The lawsuit, filed by Brian L. Schall in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, alleges a breach of contract and unjust enrichment by the 18-year-old Hudgens.

“Perhaps Vaness Hudgens needs to go back to school to learn a very basic lesson in contractual obligations,” Schall states in the lawsuit.

The suit claims Hudgens and Schall entered into a written contract for legal services in October 2005.

According to the suit, Schall claims he advanced costs and expenses on Hudgens’ behalf for her songwriting and recording career.

A rep for Hudgens was not available for comment.

Michael Jackson's Family Confronts 'Untrue And Inaccurate' Reports

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (September 7, 2007) — Michael Jackson’s mother and four of his brothers have formed a united front in dismissing reports of his alleged dependency on pain killers and alcohol.

An open letter to the media, signed by Katherine Jackson and sons Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Jackie, responds to what the family views as “troubling and heinous” rumors about Michael.

An attempted drug intervention and takeover of Michael’s business affairs are among the rumors denied by the family in the letter, which also takes aim at quoted “sources” believed to be making false claims for profit.

A particular target of the letter is People magazine, which has published a story on Michael and his children in their Sept. 17 issue.

A rep for People magazine provided the following statement to Access Hollywood:

“We stand by our story. Throughout the process we gave Mr. Jackson’s rep, Raymone Bain, the opportunity to respond and we reported her comments.”

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Septemeber 11, 2007) — Justin Timberlake fans in Sacramento and San Jose will have to wait a bit longer to get “Lovestoned.”

Justin’s “FutureSex/LoveShow” concerts scheduled for last night and tomorrow in the California cities have been postponed, due to vocal strain suffered by the “SexyBack” singer.

A rep for Timberlake issued a statement to Access Hollywood assuring fans that the shows will go on...and soon:

“Tour promoter, AEG Live, has rescheduled Justin Timberlake’s concerts in Sacramento and San Jose. The shows were rescheduled following a doctor mandated several day vocal rest prescribed to the artist to repair vocal strain inflicted during his MTV VMA performance and months of rigorous touring.

The FutureSex/LoveShows will go on. The Sacramento concert, originally scheduled for Monday, September 10th, has been rescheduled for Tuesday, September 25th and the San Jose concert, originally scheduled for Wednesday, September 12th, has been moved to Sunday, September 23rd.

The film will pick up the lives of the show’s four main characters – Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda – four years later from where the HBO series wrapped up.

Filming is scheduled to begin in New York on September 19.

Hudson, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Effie White in the 2006 musical “Dreamgirls,” also just finished shooting the drama “Winged Creatures,” alongside Kate Beckinsale, Dakota Fanning, Forest Whitaker and Guy Pearce.

Don Cheadle has signed on to star opposite Emma Roberts in the live-action feature “Hotel For Dogs,” reports Variety.

Based on Lois Duncan’s 1971 children’s book of the same name, the film follows two orphaned teens who hide dozens of stray dogs in an abandoned hotel.

Cheadle will step into the role of a struggling social worker who helps keep the kids out of trouble.

Most recently seen on the big screen reprising his role as Basher Tarr in “Ocean’s Thirteen,” Cheadle is currently filming the historical biopic “Toussaint,” opposite Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Angela Bassett.

Former “O.C.” beauty Mischa Barton will star in the psychological thriller “Walled In,” reports Variety.

Based on “Les Emmeures,” the best-selling French novel by Serge Broselot, the film features Barton as a demolition company rep who oversees the razing of a mysterious building and discovers horrifying secrets and past inhabitants entombed within its walls by a vicious murderer.

In the adaptation of Paulo Coelho’s bestseller, Bosworth plays a woman who wakes up in a mental institution after a failed suicide attempt. When she discovers that she has a weakened heart and only days to live, she winds up finding true love and a newfound will to survive.

Bosworth hit the Toronto Film Festival earlier this week to premiere her new drama “The Girl In The Park,” where she stars opposite Sigourney Weaver.

Brazilian author Coelho’s novel “Veronika” has sold more than 9 million copies. He is best known for his book “The Alchemist.”

Former “Desperate Housewives” boy toy Jesse Metcalfe will star in the indie horror thriller “Insanitarium,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Metcalfe, who played Eva Longoria’s gardener John on Wisteria Lane, will play a man who pretends to be crazy in order to save his sister from being involuntarily hospitalized.

However, once inside the institute, the siblings discover that a doctor is using his patients like lab rats, forcing them to take a drug that turns them into flesh-eating psychopaths.

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (September 11, 2007) – Tommy Lee has addressed rumors of his altercation with Kid Rock at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards last Sunday.

In a post on TommyLee.TV, Lee branded Rock, “Kid Pebble,” following the Sunday night incident during which the most recent Mr. Pam Anderson punched Lee.

Lee wrote he was having a “great time” with his pal, magician Criss Angel, and said Rock attacked him after he went over to say “hello” to Diddy, who was sitting with the woman Lee calls “Miss HOT ” — “Transformers” actress Megan Fox.

“So I get a tap on the shoulder from Kid Pebble . . . I stand up and embrace him with a semi hug and say ‘Hey dude, what up?’” Lee wrote. “He punches me in the face . . . Well if ya’ wanna call it that!? More like a bitch slap! Wuss.”

Lee says he attempted to retaliate against Rock who he also branded a “jealous country bumpkin,” and before he was able to, he was taken out by security guards.

Rock was charged with misdemeanor battery following the incident. He will be required to return to Vegas to answer the charge in court, at a later date.

Kelsey Grammer: Standing Up For His Slain Sister

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (September 11, 2007) – Kelsey Grammer is returning to TV this fall as a disgraced local newsman in the FOX sitcom “Back to You.”

But when Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush paid a visit to the set, it was all jokes aside as Kelsey opened up about one of the most painful chapters in his life – the man who killed his sister.

In the summer of 1975, Kelsey’s 18-year-old sister was abducted, raped, slashed and left to bleed to death in Colorado Springs.

“The man who murdered your sister is eligible for parole and you’re going to attend the hearing. What do you want to accomplish?” Billy asked.

“Well, I don’t want to state things I don’t know yet. I just know that there is a hearing scheduled and I intend to appear and speak for my sister on her behalf,” Kelsey explained.

“Are you speaking to the judge?” Billy asked.

“Probably the parole board. I’m still not sure at this point and I know that the D.A. has been in touch with my publicist who is kind of handling it for me because it’s a sensitive issue,” Kelsey continued.

Known to generations of fans as TV’s Dr. Frasier Crane, Kelsey’s impeccable sense of comic timing has long hid his years of personal pain. By the time he was 25, Kelsey had dealt with the murder of his father, the tragic slaying of his sister and the death of his two half-brothers in a scuba diving accident.

For years, Kelsey turned to drugs and alcohol, which led to multiple arrests and even time behind bars in 1990.

But when his little sister was killed, it was Kelsey who brought her body home to Florida to be buried. And now more than 30 years later, he may finally get the opportunity to speak for the young girl silenced by a killer.

“I intend to be there when it’s important for me to be there. He also killed six other people. This is not a person that I think should be back out on the street,” Kelsey said.

“Is this maybe also a chance for a guy who, you know, you were the big brother at the time to speak up for her when you couldn’t?” Billy asked.

“This is the first opportunity I’ve had to say something on her behalf that might make a difference because I couldn’t make a difference before,” Kelsey concluded.

NEW YORK, NY (September 11, 2007) — Rosie O’Donnell’s memoir, “Celebrity Detox,” is already causing a commotion before its October 2 release date.

The book recounts (among other things) Rosie’s time co-hosting “The View,” and O’Donnell reportedly indicates in her writings that the show’s frontwoman, Barbara Walters, should retire.

“At some point, a person gets tired. It’s inevitable,” Rosie writes, according to a report in The NY Post. “Barbara Walters is almost twice my age . . . at some point it becomes necessary to step back.”

“Everyone has to go. Going is part of the gig,” Rosie, 45, reportedly says of Barbara, 77, in the book.

“And I would be less-than-honest if I were to say that there is no trouble between Barbara and I,” O’Donnell writes, according to the report. “I mean, our differences are obvious.”

Walters, who has read the book, expressed her reaction to it in a statement to Access Hollywood:

“Rosie has written a sad book, but I choose to focus on the happier times that we had and the happy times that we hope to have in the future.”

A publicist for O’Donnell told Access, “Rosie loves Barbara, always has, always will.”

Despite any “differences” O’Donnell may have allegedly had with Walters in the past, she defends Barbara when it comes to her involvement in Rosie’s drawn-out feud with Donald Trump, according to the NY Post’s Page Six.

“I did not anticipate that [Trump] would be cruel enough to do what he did to Barbara,” Rosie reportedly writes in the book. “She should have been left alone.”

Walters was unwittingly brought into the fray when Trump claimed to various media outlets that she did not like Rosie, and that she regretted putting her on the show — a claim Walters denied.

As for the present day, “The View” has moved on since Rosie’s departure last May. New co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd are firmly in place alongside Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and Walters is looking forward to a “wonderful year” with them on the show.

On a visit to “The View” set yesterday, Barbara told Access that she doesn’t anticipate any “personal” feuds this year, and expects the show to return to lively, friendly debates.

As for Rosie’s on-air claim that she would occasionally return to guest host, Barbara indicated to Access that O’Donnell will most likely not be back.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (September 11, 2007) — Before Kathy Griffin won a creative arts Emmy last weekend for her reality show, “My Life on the D-List,” she joked that an award would move her to the C-list.

She was right: “C” as in censored.

The TV academy said her raucous acceptance speech will be edited when the event, which was taped, is shown Saturday on the E! channel. The main prime-time Emmy Awards air the next night on Fox.

“Kathy Griffin’s offensive remarks will not be part of the E! telecast on Saturday night,” the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences said in a statement Monday.

In her speech, Griffin said that “a lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus.”

She went on to hold up her Emmy, make an off-color remark about Christ and proclaim, “This award is my god now!”

The comedian’s remarks were condemned Monday by Catholic League President Bill Donohue, who called them a “vulgar, in-your-face brand of hate speech.”

According to the TV academy and E!, when the four hour-plus ceremony is edited into a two-hour program, Griffin’s remarks will be shown in “an abbreviated version” in which some language may be bleeped.

The program was in production and unfinished, an E! spokeswoman said Monday.

Requests for comment were left Monday evening by phone and e-mail with Griffin’s publicist. They were not immediately returned.

The Catholic League, an anti-defamation group, called on the TV academy to “denounce Griffin’s obscene and blasphemous comment” at Sunday’s ceremony.

The academy said Monday it had no plans to address the issue in the prime-time broadcast.

The organization may have another delicate issue to consider, this one involving an off-color fake music video that aired last December on “Saturday Night Live” and won a creative arts Emmy for best song.

Andy Samberg of “SNL” said Saturday that he had yet to be asked by the TV academy to perform the tune with Timberlake on the Fox broadcast, but he was willing. Timberlake, on a concert tour, is scheduled to be in Los Angeles next weekend.

The subject of their “(Blank) in a Box” video: wrapping a certain part of the male anatomy and presenting it to a loved one as a holiday present.

The academy has said that “show elements are in the process of being worked out.”

BLANTYRE, Malawi (September 3, 2007) — The senior Malawian child welfare official who was to go to London to assess whether Madonna could adopt a little boy from the southern African country has been removed from the high-profile case, officials said Monday.

The removal of Penstone Kilembe, the director of Malawi’s Child Welfare Services, follows allegations that he solicited money from the singer for the trip.

Simon Chisale, the country’s chief social welfare officer, said the government had gone to court last week to have Kilembe replaced as the assessor in the Madonna adoption. Chisale said he was now planning to go to London this week to carry out the delayed assessment of toddler David Banda’s progress.

Kilembe, who returned to Malawi late Monday after attending a conference in the United States last week, said he had not heard of the move and denied any wrongdoing.

“I am not aware of these developments. I have just arrived from New York and nobody from my office has told me anything. I will be in the office tomorrow,” he said.

Madonna and her husband, film director Guy Ritchie, were granted temporary custody of David, then 13 months old, last October. His father had placed him in an orphanage after his mother died.

Critics accused Madonna, who found David in the orphanage while in Malawi to launch a project to help the country’s 2 million AIDS orphans, of using her celebrity status to circumvent Malawian adoption laws — allegations she denies.

The latest developments are likely to raise concerns that Malawi’s child welfare department is in a state of disarray at a time when it is under international scrutiny.

Madonna’s publicist, Liz Rosenberg, said in a statement that the adoption is going forward as originally planned.

“The plans to finalize the adoption of Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s son, David, are proceeding as outlined almost a year ago — the day the Malawian Government granted them their ‘interim’ adoption,” the statement read. “There has been absolutely no interference with Government Officials or use of Madonna’s ‘celebrity’ to speed up this adoption as reported. All appropriate legal requirements are being followed, including a home visit.”

The superstar’s rep added that the family is eagerly awaiting the final adoption.

“Madonna and her entire family look forward to being granted the final adoption early next year — 18 months following the original interim adoption order,” the statement concluded.

There have been newspaper reports in Malawi that Minister of Gender and Child Welfare Kate Kainja-Kaluluma stopped Kilembe from going to London because he had allegedly solicited funds from Madonna for the trip without the minister’s knowledge or permission. According to the original custody order, Kilembe was appointed to oversee the adoption, which included inspections of the star’s home in May and December.

Kilembe, who disputes the allegations, said he had spoken to the minister and that the matter had been resolved.

Malawian rights organizations have said their government needs help monitoring Madonna’s planned adoption.

In an affidavit presented to the court, child welfare officials said Kilembe was leaving the ministry and “moving on to a new posting.” It did not give details on his new position.

Chisale confirmed Monday that he had been appointed to replace Kilembe but refused to discuss the adoption further.

“Yes, I have just been informed I would do the assessment but I am not mandated to discuss the issue until perhaps we finalize the report,” he said.

The couple’s custody order could be revoked if it is found that David was being treated differently from their other children, Lourdes, 10, and Rocco, 6, or if the toddler’s rights were being violated in any way.

VENICE, Italy (September 4, 2007) — Bill Murray has addressed his bizarre golf cart incident in Stockholm.

Last week, the star of “Lost In Translation” and “Groundhog Day,” was stopped by Swedish authorities, who told the AP the actor, when he was pulled over, smelled of alcohol.

Murray, who is attending the 64th annual Venice Film Festival, told reporters Monday, that authorities assumed he was inebriated.

“[The police] asked me to come over and they assumed that I was drunk and I explained to them that I was a golfer,” the AP reports Murray saying.

Murray said he was hanging out with friends following a golf tournament.

When no one offered to take the wheel and drive people home, Murray took the reins.

“I ended up stopping and dropping people off on the way like a bus. I had about six people in the thing and I dropped them off one at a time and as the last couple were getting out, who wished to be dropped off at a 7-Eleven. ... I didn’t know they had 7-Elevens in Stockholm,” Murray said.

Swedish police say Murray refused a breathalyzer so “we applied the old method – a blood test,” Detective-Inspector Christer Holmlund of the Stockholm Police said at the time.

Murray was released following the test. Results are expected in another week.

Whoopi Makes Her Big Debut On 'The View'

NEW YORK, NY (September 4, 2007) — “The View” kicked off its eleventh season today with the big debut of new co-host Whoopi Goldberg.

An enthusiastic standing ovation welcomed Whoopi and fellow co-hosts Barbara Walters, Joy Behar and (a very pregnant) Elisabeth Hasselbeck as they took their places on the revamped orange and yellow set.

New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg offered his own welcoming words with a letter, in which he jokingly inferred that they picked the wrong “berg” for the job. “Goldberg, Bloomberg,” his letter read. “You must’ve gotten confused. We look so much alike.”

The laughs didn’t end there, as the women easily played off each other to hilarious effect during the “hot topics” portion of the show.

Whoopi commented on the news that hotel mogul Leona Helmsley had left her dog $12 million dollars upon her death, saying, “If I’d have known that’s what she wanted, I would’ve been her — well, you know what I’m saying,” prompting Joy to chime in: “You would’ve been her b*tch,” to lots of laughs.

Even when “hot topics” took a more serious turn, such as in the discussion of the Michael Vick dogfighting case, things remained civil and friendly among the hosts.

DeVito said that he had been merely tired during that infamous appearance, not drunk, and went on to discuss both his Premium Limoncello beverage line and the new season of his TV series, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”

As the show closed, Whoopi stated that it had been “a lot of fun,” and gave the sign-off, “Have a great day and take time to enjoy the view.”

As for the mysterious fifth co-host expected to join the show?

Rita Cosby's Anna Nicole Book Sparks Criticism From Birkhead, Stern

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (September 4, 2007) – Investigative journalist and author Rita Cosby has gone on the record with startling new claims about Larry Birkhead and Howard K. Stern, in her new book about the death of former Playmate, Anna Nicole Smith.

Cosby’s book, “Blonde Ambition: The Untold Story Behind Anna Nicole Smith’s Death,” claims Birkhead, the father of Smith’s only daughter Dannielynn, engaged in a homosexual tryst with her longtime companion Howard K. Stern.

“It’s crazy and of course it’s not true,” an angry Birkhead told Access Hollywood’s Executive Producer Rob Silverstein in a phone call Monday afternoon. “Rita Cosby is going to get sued for everything she’s got.”

In an interview with Cosby conducted by Access Hollywood’s Tony Potts Tuesday afternoon, the author responded to Birkhead’s statement.

“I’m sure he would deny everything,” she told Access. “I’m sure he’d tell you the sky is green and stars are falling from it if he could.”

Cosby said she spoke to a number of sources including private investigators who spoke to two nannies who allegedly say they saw Smith, watching a tape, of Birkhead and Stern engaged in a sexual act.

“What I’ve heard actually is that they saw Anna looking at a video tape . . . some sort of tape. They have seen this tape and they told private investigators,” Cosby said.

Birkhead told Access Hollywood’s Silverstein that the ex-MSNBC journalist “never bothered to call me about the book,” a claim Cosby acknowledged. He added that he attempted to reach Cosby himself, but she never got back to him.

“Not true,” Cosby refuted.

Birkhead suggested “Blonde Ambition,” be removed from the non-fiction section in stores.

“The book should be sitting on the fiction shelves in bookstores next to ‘Harry Potter,‘” Birkhead told Access.

Cosby responded strongly to his suggestion.

“My response is Larry Birkhead is in Harry Potter-land himself if he’s sitting back and believing the American public [believes] nothing happened between him and Howard K. Stern,” she retorted.

L. Lin Wood, a lawyer for Stern also lashed out at Cosby’s book in a statement obtained by Access Hollywood.

“The more information I have received over the weekend about Ms. Cosby’s book, the more convinced I am that she has, as a practical matter, authored a work of pure fiction,” Wood’s statement on behalf of Stern read. “It appears that Ms. Cosby has joined the ranks of tabloid journalists who are willing to publish the print equivalent of sewerage to engage in character assassination for profit.”

Stern and his legal team are currently attempting to obtain a copy of “Blonde Ambition,” which they plan to take action on.

“If the statements about Mr. Stern cited in weekend media reports are in fact published in her book, Mr. Stern will sue Ms. Cosby and her publisher for libel,” Wood’s statement read. “All of the accusations in the published reports are false and defamatory.”

If the men do pursue legal action, Cosby told Access, she won’t be surprised.

“Larry Birkhead was threatening to file suit before he even knew what was in this book and I think that should speak volumes . . . I’m not surprised they’re threatening to sue. They would sue a paperboy if they could,” she said.

As for Hatten, from whom the relationship allegations appear to stem, Wood called into question her credibility. In his statement he noted that on Friday August 31, he “reminded Ms. Cosby and her publisher of the obvious fact that Jackie Hatten is not a credible or reliable source for any accusation against Mr. Stern.”

Cosby however, stands by her source.“There are a number of things she has said and they have proven true,” Cosby noted.

So who was the lucky man?

“I couldn’t get it out of her,” Vanity Fair’s senior west coast editor Krista Smith told Access Hollywood.

Most notably, Nicole dated movie producer Steven Bing and rocker Lenny Kravitz during the five years between Tom and Keith.

In 2004, Kravitz was cryptic when Access asked him about his relationship with Nicole.

“We’re really great friends, you know, and um...have been and always will be. But you know, we keep the what, how and when and all that to ourselves,” a coy Kravitz said.

For the magazine photo shoot, Nicole was happy and relaxed as she posed seaside in her native Australia. However, she revealed the past year was a difficult one.

Nicole stood by Keith’s side when he went to rehab, just four months after their wedding. However, Smith got the feeling quitting on the relationship was never an option.

“I don’t think it would ever occur to her to walk away from that,” Smith added.

Despite Nicole calling it a “very, very, very bad, painful place,” the couple is now in a much different place, as they prepare for a family.

“I’m yearning to have one,” Nicole told the magazine. “I think I would be very sad if I wasn’t able to have a baby.”

'Crocodile Hunter' Irwin Remembered One Year Later

His death, at the age of 44 from the barb of a stingray, received while filming a TV show with Philippe Cousteau, was mourned by fans around the world including the Australian Prime Minister and film star Russell Crowe.

“It was way too soon for all of us. We have lost a friend, a champion,” Crowe said to mourners who gathered at Irwin’s memorial service, held at the Australia Zoo on September 20, 2006.

Irwin, who in addition to his popular show on “Animal Planet,” worked at the zoo where the memorial was held, was known for his love of animals. He devoted his life to animal conservationism.

After weeks of speculation, ABC confirmed the “major” newson Thursday that Beckham will appear as a guest star on this season’s “Ugly Betty.”

Posh will play herself as a celebrity bridesmaid at the wedding of Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa Williams) and Bradford Meade (Alan Dale).

Courtney Takes On Coogan Over Owen's Suicide Attempt

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 30, 2007) – As Owen Wilson’s recovery from his tragic suicide attempt earlier this week continues in a Beverly Hills hospital, the story moves to Courtney Love’s house.

The vocal rocker spoke to cameras outside her home, continuing to put blame on British actor/comedian Steve Coogan, a man she had a fling with in 2006.

“Hopefully the guy leaves us alone in this town and goes back to Brighton [England] or wherever the hell he’s from and just maybe stays there,” she said.

Love alleged that Coogan was a negative influence over Owen Wilson.

“I tried to warn uh, different friends of Owen,” she told the cameras outside her house on the subject.

What Now For Owen?

“He has been spending time with Owen Wilson?” a reporter asked about Coogan.

“From what I understand, yeah,” Courtney replied, “and it makes me really sad.”

When asked about the allegations by Love, while in Hawaii, Coogan, had little to say.

“Where are you from?” Coogan asked the reporter.

“I’m from Maui, Hawaii,” the reporter replied.

“Hey listen, have a good day. I’m with my family,” Coogan said, refusing to respond to Courtney’s statements as he headed back to LA after wrapping up his role in Ben Stiller’s “Tropic Thunder,” a film Owen had to drop out of.

Coogan did however open up to Access Hollywood yesterday.

“My thoughts are with my friend Owen at this difficult time, but I do want to set the record straight and say that the allegations . . . are completely and utterly false,” he said.

Meanwhile, as previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, the city of Santa Monica has refused all media requests for a copy of the 911 call regarding Owen Wilson citing the actor’s privacy rights. They stated: “No person should have to worry about whether placing a call for Emergency Assistance will automatically make his or her medical request open to public review.”

In related news, a source close to Wilson revealed to Access that Wilson did not overdose as other outlets have reported. While Owen did slit his wrists, his stomach was never pumped at the hospital. There were no drugs in his system, the source claims, other than the antidepressants he was taking at the time.

Filmmakers Blow Up Abandoned Building On 'Dark Knight' Set

CHICAGO, Illinois (August 30, 2007) — For the past several weeks, the cast and crew of “The Dark Knight,” the sequel to “Batman Begins,” have been shooting in Chicago under a mask of secrecy whenever possible.

Despite the filmmakers’ best efforts, various picture and video images have inevitably been covertly captured from eager fans, spies, and passers-by and leaked to the public. But some things simply cannot be expected to remain under wraps until the film hits theatres next summer.

Yesterday the big budget production took over the abandoned Brach’s Candy Building, renamed it “Gotham General Hospital,” and proceeded to blow it up in a spectacular display of movie pyrotechnics as seen in these pictures.

Warner Bros., the studio behind the film, paid for the demolition of the building so they could utilize it in “The Dark Knight.”

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 30, 2007) – Melanie “Scary Spice” Brown finally opened up about Eddie Murphy, father to her baby daughter Angel Iris, on Wednesday night.

Well, sort of.

“Can I ask you one Eddie Murphy question?” late night TV host Jimmy Kimmel asked the pop singer and soon to be “Dancing With the Stars” contestant.

“So dumb, I don’t really talk about it, but go on. You’re gonna ask me anyway,” she sighed.

“I want to ask you one thing,” Jimmy continued as Mel prepared for the big one.

“What did you think of ‘Norbit’?” Kimmel asked as Mel exploded in fits of laughter.

She may not want to talk about Murphy, but she opened up a little, to Access Hollywood’s own Tony Potts.

“Is there any resolution? Is it all done and finished with Eddie Murphy,” Tony asked.

And with that, Melanie stayed mum on her child support battle with Eddie Murphy. What she did want to talk about though, was her upcoming “DWTS” appearance.

“I’m very nervous,” she said. “I don’t even want to think about it. See, I’m already getting a panic attack! I’m in it now. I’m gonna have fun and not think about anything else.”

Mel can expect some support from a certain Spice Girl.

“Victoria [Beckham] is gonna come to one of the shows,” Mel said. “She was excited. She said, ‘I have to design your costumes. We’ve got to sort that out!‘”

Posh will handle her costume, and Sporty will lay down the law. On the upcoming Spice Girls world tour, Sporty Spice, Mel C., has banned booze and insists on lights out by 10:30 p.m., all in an effort to keep the girls focused on their work.

As for new work however, Mel B. remained mum, once again.

Man Reaches Plea In Tom Cruise Wedding Photo Extortion Case

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 30, 2007) — A man known for brokering deals involving compromising celebrity photos and videos has agreed to plead guilty in a plot to extort more than $1 million from Tom Cruise for the actor’s stolen wedding photos, according to court documents unsealed Thursday.

David Hans Schmidt, 47, has agreed to plea guilty to one count of sending communications for purposes of extortion. He faces up to two years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine under a plea agreement filed Aug. 24.

It wasn’t known when Schmidt, who is free on $100,000 bond, might enter his plea in court. A phone message left for his attorney Nancy Kardon was not immediately returned Thursday.

Meanwhile, a plea agreement for Schmidt’s co-defendant was filed under seal Aug. 24, according to a federal court docket in Los Angeles. Marc Lewis Gittleman, who authorities say helped recover photos from a computer hard drive, has been charged with conspiracy to commit extortion.

Gittleman, 33, faces up to five years in prison. A message left for his attorney Richard Hirsch also was not immediately returned.

Gittleman and Schmidt were arrested July 26 after federal authorities said Gittleman obtained photos of Cruise’s wedding in Italy last year to Katie Holmes from the event’s official photographer, court documents show.

Gittleman then made copies of photos on the drive and kept them for himself, authorities said. He contacted Schmidt after finding a Web site touting his abilities to broker celebrity photos.

Starting in May, Schmidt had repeated contact with Cruise representatives and threatened to release the photos if he didn’t receive between $1.2 and $1.3 million, officials said.

Authorities said Schmidt sent multiple e-mails to Cruise’s camp, including one with 13 wedding photographs attached as proof he had them. Schmidt also said there were about 7,600 images and he hoped a “commendable and quiet arrangement could be reached” with Tom Cruise, court documents said.

Schmidt attended a Los Angeles meeting with the actor’s representatives and an undercover FBI agent on July 24 in which he compared his actions to “legal extortion” and said he would “hunt down to hell and back” anyone who crossed him, court documents said.

Schmidt also has tried to auction off Paris Hilton’s diaries, along with photos of her in various stages of undress and other personal items that had been locked away in a Los Angeles-area storage locker until a few months ago.

He has claimed to have brokered deals to sell a sex video of Dustin Diamond, who played Screech on “Saved by the Bell,” and a video of skater Tonya Harding’s wedding night, according to published reports. He also claimed to have obtained topless shots of rescued U.S. Army POW Pfc. Jessica Lynch.

A phone message left with Cruise’s publicist was not immediately returned.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 30, 2007) – From the department of “you can run, but you can’t hide,” Britney Spears’ former manager Larry Rudolph has finally been served.

Rudolph (pictured with Britney in November 2006) was subpoenaed during a visit to an LA tanning salon on Thursday, a source confirmed to Access Hollywood.

He becomes the latest target of Kevin Federline’s camp in the raging custody battle between K-Fed and Britney. Brit’s former assistant Shannon Funk, former bodyguard Daimon Shippen, pal Alli Sims and even Brit’s former rehab facility Promises have already been served as Federline builds his case for custody of the couple’s two kids – Sean Preston and Jayden James.

But while the previous subpoenas were handed out by Aaron Cohen, referred to in the press as “Kevin’s commando,” People magazine described Rudolph’s processor as a “5’8” brunette [female] in black slacks and a buttoned-up shirt,” according to an employee at the tanning salon.

Earlier this month, Rudolph phoned Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush to jokingly say he was on vacation “hiding out from Kevin’s processors” after friends told Rudolph Kevin’s camp had been looking for him.

“When I come back, I’m sure they’ll find me,” he joked to Billy.

WWE Suspends 10 Wrestlers For Violating Steroids, Drug Policy

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (August 30, 2007) — World Wrestling Entertainment has suspended 10 of its wrestlers for violations of a policy that tests for steroids and other drugs, the company said Thursday.

Stamford-based WWE says it issued suspension notices based on independent information from the prosecutor’s office in Albany County, N.Y., which has been investigating illegal steroid sales.

Neither the WWE nor the Albany County district attorney’s office would comment on the suspended wrestlers’ identities Thursday. No criminal charges were filed, they said.

Under a WWE wellness policy instituted last year that requires tests for steroids and other drugs, a wrestler faces a 30-day suspension without pay for a first violation, a 60-day suspension for a second violation and firing for a third violation. Performers are tested at least four times per year.

“We are very actively working to eradicate the use of steroids and performance enhancing drugs in the WWE,” WWE spokesman Gary Davis said. “Today’s action is part of that effort.”

WWE officials met this month with New York prosecutors investigating illegal steroid sales. Albany County prosecutor P. David Soares’ office has said that pro wrestler Chris Benoit, who killed his family before hanging himself in June, and other WWE wrestlers had been clients of Signature Pharmacy of Orlando, Fla. Investigators say Benoit had a steroid and other drugs in his system at the time.

When Soares’ office began investigating the illegal sale and distribution of controlled substances, he said, his office sought the help of WWE after a number of its wrestlers appeared on customer lists of clinics connected with Signature Pharmacy.

Nine people, including three current or former physicians, have pleaded guilty, most affiliated with Internet and phone-order companies that filled orders for anabolic steroids and growth hormones through Signature and sent drugs to customers around the country, including Albany County.

Signature’s owners have pleaded not guilty.

The Benoit case prompted the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to ask WWE to turn over any information it has on steroid and drug abuse in pro wrestling.

The committee has not yet scheduled a hearing on the case.

WWE said the company’s practice has been to not release the names of suspended wrestlers, but the company has notified performers that starting Nov. 1 the names of those suspended for violating the policy will be made public.

WWE has about 160 wrestlers. WWE shares closed Thursday at $14.80, down 21 cents.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 30, 2007) – As Britney Spears and Kevin Federline’s heated custody battle rages on, an attorney for Britney filed a motion to delay a September 17 custody hearing, according to court papers obtained by Access Hollywood.

In the papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, the pop star’s monthly income was also revealed.

According to Kevin’s attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan, Britney rakes in an average of $737,868 per month.

The documents, stemming from the couple’s August 27 hearing, also reveal Kevin is receiving $20,000 a month in spousal support, however, that payment ends on November 15.

The redaction-laden documents also reveal a list of six parties who have been or will be subpoenaed by Kevin’s camp in his push for custody of the couple’s two kids – Sean Preston (23 months) and Jayden James (11 months).

Parents Frustrated Over Negative 'Kid Nation' Portrayal

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 24, 2007) - As the controversy grows over CBS’ reality show “Kid Nation,” where 40 children between the ages of 8 and 15 try to establish an adult free society in a New Mexico ghost town, a parent is speaking out about her frustrations with the show’s negative portrayal.

Access Hollywood spoke to a New Jersey lawyer identified only as Lori, whose last name is being withheld by CBS to protect her child. Lori’s 14-year-old daughter, Sophia, took part in the show. “I know I speak for most of the parents when I say we are just mystified by this uproar and I guess it’s because people like to read sensational headlines,” Lori said.

Lori told Access that she and the other parents are angry that media outlets, to whom they have granted interviews, continue to focus on the negative. “Every time they show them, they cut out anything that might put the show in a good light, and it was such an amazing experience for these kids,” she said. “We really are so mystified by it. My daughter has nothing but great things to say about it. They had the time of their lives. I’m perplexed.”

Lori claims she had multiple meetings with CBS before agreeing that her daughter would participate in the show and was 100 percent confident in their ability to care for the children. “My child was better supervised there for six weeks than she could have had (she) been living with her family for six weeks. We don’t have her surrounded by doctors, and safety experts, and therapists, and producers and counselors.”

Lori said she is also perplexed by complaints that the show violated child labor laws. “It wasn’t putting the kids in a situation where they had to work,” Lori said. “My daughter told me that there were so many kids that would just lay around the entire time and never did anything at all. So, my understanding from talking to my daughter was that kids could do as little or as much as they wanted to do. Nothing was forced at all.”

She confirmed what CBS told Access, that parents were given status update phone calls every three days. “In fact, I asked them not to call me, you know, unless there is a problem. She has been to summer camp so many times, and I had no contact with her and I had total faith — CBS really allayed any concerns I might have had.”

One parent did complain, however. Janis Miles of Fayetteville, Ga., stated in a letter that her 12-year-old daughter, Divad, was spattered in the face with grease while cooking potatoes. Four other children required medical attention after they accidentally drank bleach. CBS confirmed the incidents but downplayed them as minor. CBS assured Access Hollywood that adults stepped in immediately.

Lori said she heard about the incidents from her own daughter but was confident they were handled properly. “When the child was burned or another drank bleach, my daughter said they had an ambulance right there. No matter how minor any incident was, they went over and beyond,” Lori said. “They had ambulances there. They would take them to the hospital. They would monitor them for days even if they just had a tiny stomach ache.”

Even Sophia did not escape tiny bumps and bruises, Lori said. “Accidents happen. My daughter had a tiny little scrape. She had scrapes on her arm. She hurt one of her fingernails. These things happen in life. Everyday we have accidents.”

Lori said that not even CBS could prevent against people getting paper cuts. “My daughter told me there was (a) safety expert in the kitchen almost all the time giving them advice about how to cook with grease-- they were frying stuff in oil. I think its great that the kids were getting these real life experiences.”

Lori said she was distressed about claims of possible abuse on the show. “I’ve been reading stuff that’s been coming down the pipe, and it’s really been distressing to me and most of the parents that have been involved with this production,” she said. “I’m a former prosecutor of child abuse and to label this show child abuse and child neglect is insulting and denigrating to children who have been victims of child abuse.”

Lori said that to her, child abuse involves children who are battered or murdered. “The stories are just horrendous. They are placed in situations by adults who have no concern for their well-being or safety. This couldn’t be further from the truth on kid nation.”

Lori said she considers the show an educational summer program.

PARIS, France (August 24, 2007) – While daddy Tom was hard at work in Berlin, mom Katie and daughter Suri spent a girls’ day in Paris.

Despite the rainy weather and a high-heel misstep by mom, Katie and Suri were all smiles as they did some shopping, grabbed a bite to eat and even hit the Louvre during the whirlwind day trip.

And Suri wasn’t just along for the ride, she even carried her own bag, as you can see in the photo.

Tom is currently in Berlin filming his new movie “Valkyrie,” where there was some drama earlier this week as a group of extras injured on the set threatened to sue the film’s producers.

The injuries occurred last weekend when the extras fell out of a truck during filming.

Cruise was not involved in the scene.

'High School Musical 2' Graduates To Record Breaker

LINDSAY SENTENCED: Lindsay Lohan reached a plea deal on Thursday and will spend one day behind bars, plus 10 days of community service and must complete a drug treatment program. As part of the plea deal, Lohan’s lawyer Blair Berk pleaded guilty on Lohan’s behalf to two counts of being under the influence of cocaine; no contest to two counts of driving with a blood-alcohol level above .08 percent and one count of reckless driving.

Lohan was charged earlier in the day with seven misdemeanors stemming from two drunken-driving arrests in the last three months. More serious felony drug charges were not filed, prosecutors said, because tests showed there wasn’t enough cocaine on her to warrant them.

In a statement to Access Hollywood on Lindsay’s behalf, she admitted that her life had become “completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs,” and that she wanted to be “healthy and gain control of my life and career and have asked for medical help in doing so.”

Paris gets a workout!

PARIS SETTLES...AND SHOPS: Paris Hilton settled her defamation lawsuit with fellow socialite Zeta Graff this week. Graff had filed a $10 million suit against Paris in 2005, claiming Paris fed a slanderous story to the New York Post about Graff attacking her at a club and ripping a necklace off her neck in what was supposedly a jealous rage over Hilton’s fiancée at the time, Paris Latsis.

The attorneys for Paris and Zeta released the following joint statement to Access Hollywood:

“Zeta Graff and Paris Hilton are pleased to announce the amicable resolution of the lawsuit between them. Both parties are glad that the matter could be resolved without the time and expense of a trial. The resolution is confidential and no one will comment further.”

In other Paris news, the heiress dropped into celebrity shopping hot spot Intuition for some very special merchandise on Wednesday. She spent around 10 thousand dollars buying up baby clothes and accessories for her friend Nicole Richie, who is four months pregnant.

A little trip to the vet before jail

NICOLE SERVES (SOME) TIME: Nicole Richie checked herself in to the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood Thursday afternoon to serve her jail sentence, stemming from her DUI arrest in December. She was sentenced in July to serve four days in jail, but was released 82 minutes after checking in.

Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department stated that Richie’s quick release was “based on jail overcrowding to manage population levels mandated by Federal Court guidelines,” which met the current criteria for a female arrestee sentenced to 30 days or less for a non violent offense.

“She did everything she was asked and exactly how the way they requested,” Richie’s rep told Access.

THE LATEST IN K-FED & BRITNEY: Kevin Federline’s defense team issued a subpoena to the Promises rehab facility, where ex-wife Britney Spears spent a month being treated earlier this year. This was the latest in a string of issued subpoenas, as K-fed’s team continue to build their case in the custody battle with Britney over the couple’s two kids – Sean Preston and Jayden James.

Another potential target of Kevin’s team — Britney’s former manager, Larry Rudolph — laughingly told Access this week via phone that he was “on vacation” and “hiding out from Kevin’s processors” after hearing from friends that K-Fed’s team had been showing up at his office and on his doorstep, presumably to serve him a subpoena.

Britney herself was “missing” for a little while this week, with conflicting reports as to her whereabouts permeating the web. Reports claimed that she was spotted using a bathroom at a restaurant in Belgium, but those reports proved false when she was photographed driving in the Los Angeles area with a friend and her two sons.

As for those rumors that Britney may perform at the MTV Video Music Awards? A source told Access on Friday that there is “a very strong chance Britney will open the MTV VMAs.”

Vivica defends her co-star

JESSICA’S ‘MAJOR’ INJURY: It was confirmed this week that Jessica Simpson had bruised her nose on the set of “Major Movie Star” when she hit herself with a prop gun during a shoot. Despite the injury, she was able to continue filming.

Meanwhile, Jessica’s co-star, Vivica A. Fox, denied reports that Simpson had exhibited “diva-like behavior” on the set, referring to her as “wonderful” and a “team player.”

NFL Suspends Michael Vick Indefinitely After Filing Dogfighting Plea

ATLANTA, Georgia (August 24, 2007) — The NFL indefinitely suspended Michael Vick without pay Friday just hours after he acknowledged in court papers that he did, indeed, bankroll gambling on dogfighting and helped kill some dogs not worthy of the pit.

Vick, however, insisted he placed no bets of his own nor took any winnings.

In disciplining Vick, commissioner Roger Goodell said Vick’s admitted conduct was “not only illegal but also cruel and reprehensible” and regardless whether he personally placed bets, “your actions in funding the betting and your association with illegal gambling both violate the terms of your NFL player contract and expose you to corrupting influences in derogation of one of the most fundamental responsibilities of an NFL player.”

Goodell freed the Falcons to “assert any claims or remedies” to recover $22 million of Vick’s signing bonus from the 10-year, $130 million contract he signed in 2004.

The commissioner didn’t speak to Vick but based his decision on the court filings. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Goodell may meet with Vick in the future, and Goodell said he would review the suspension after all the legal proceedings.

“You have engaged in conduct detrimental to the welfare of the NFL and have violated the league’s personal conduct policy,” Goodell told Vick in a letter after meeting in New York with Falcons president and general manager Rich McKay.

Falcons owner Arthur Blank supported Goodell’s decision and said:

“We hope that Michael will use this time, not only to further address his legal matters, but to take positive steps to improve his personal life.”

Earlier Friday, a “summary of facts” signed by Vick was filed along with his written plea agreement on a federal dogfighting conspiracy charge. He will appear before U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson to formally plead guilty Monday and then await sentencing at a later date.

The court documents and a statement by Vick’s legal team seek to portray him as less involved in the dogfighting ring than three co-defendants who previously pleaded guilty and agreed to testify against the Atlanta Falcons quarterback.

“While Mr. Vick is not personally charged with or responsible for committing all of the acts alleged in the indictment, as with any conspiracy charge, he is taking full responsibility for his actions and the actions of the others involved,” the defense team
said in a written statement after the plea agreement was filed.

“Mr. Vick apologizes for his poor judgment in associating himself with those involved in dog fighting and realizes he should never have been involved in this conduct,” the statement said.

Vick signed the plea agreement late Thursday.

“Most of the Bad Newz Kennels operation and gambling monies were provided by Vick,” the summary of facts said, echoing language in plea agreements by the three co-defendants.

The statement said that when the kennel’s dogs won, the gambling proceeds were generally shared by Vick’s three co-defendants — Tony Taylor, Purnell Peace and Quanis Phillips.

“Vick did not gamble by placing side bets on any of the fights. Vick did not receive any of the proceeds of the purses that were won by Bad Newz Kennels,” the summary said.

According to the statement, Vick also was involved with the others in killing six to eight dogs that did not perform well in testing sessions last April. The dogs were executed by drowning or hanging.

“Vick agrees and stipulates that these dogs all died as a result of the collective efforts” of Vick, Phillips and Peace, the statement said.

In the plea agreement, the government committed to recommending a sentence on the low end of the federal sentencing guideline range of a year to 18 months. However, the conspiracy charge is punishable by up to five years in prison, and the judge is not bound by any recommendation or by the guidelines.

Hudson has a reputation for imposing stiff sentences, according to lawyers who have appeared in his court. The judge will set a sentencing date at Monday’s hearing.

“Our position has been that we are going to try to help Judge Hudson understand all the facts and Michael’s role,” Vick’s defense attorney, Billy Martin, said in telephone interview. “Michael’s role was different than others associated with this incident.”

Martin said Vick will “speak to the public and explain his actions.” Though he declined to say when and where, the Tom Joyner Morning Show, a syndicated program based in Dallas, said it will have a live interview with Vick on Tuesday.

The U.S. attorney’s office, which has declined to comment on the case, said it would issue a statement after the hearing. The case began in April when authorities conducting a drug investigation of Vick’s cousin raided a Surry County property owned by Vick and found dozens of dogs, some injured, and equipment commonly used in dogfighting.

A federal indictment issued in July charged Vick, Peace, Phillips and Taylor with an interstate dogfighting conspiracy. Vick initially denied any involvement, and all four men pleaded innocent.

Taylor was the first to change his plea to guilty, saying Vick financed the dogfighting ring’s gambling and operations. Peace and Phillips soon followed, alleging that Vick joined them in killing dogs that did not measure up in test fights.

The sickening details outlined in the indictment and other court papers prompted a public backlash against Vick, who had been one of the NFL’s most popular players.

As animal-rights groups mobilized against Vick and sponsors dropped him, Vick was barred from the Falcons training camp, but neither the NFL nor the team have taken further action.

LOS ANGELES, CA (August 24, 2007) - The CBS reality show where 40 children aged 8 to 15 were dropped off in a New Mexico ghost town to try and create an adult free society continues to raise eyebrows. The series is still weeks away from it’s September 19th premiere date but already has prompted complaints from one of the children’s parents, and may have skirted New Mexico’s child protection laws.

While parents and children made available by CBS praised the production as safe, well supervised and a learning experience, one mother has told authorities the conditions warrant an abuse investigation.

Janis Miles of Fayetteville, Ga., said in a letter that her 12-year-old daughter, Divad, was spattered on her face with grease while cooking potatoes on a wood stove, and that four other children required medical attention after they accidentally drank bleach.

Her daughter also had a rash that had caused scarring, and a sunburn on her face and hands, Miles wrote. Miles declined to talk to a reporter, referring calls to CBS.

In an interview with Access Hollywood, the show’s Executive Producer, Tom Forman, confirmed the on set accidents but called them minor incidents, “There was everything from twisted ankles to kitchen burns. The kids received immediate medical attention where they needed it. Nothing serious and no effects afterwards.”

Forman believes the accidents were so minor they may not even be worked into the episodes, “The truth is it didn’t really happen all that often. It wasn’t all that interesting.”

After dropping their kids off at the New Mexico set their parents were sent home. Forman says adults were present at all times during the production including paramedics, security guards, pediatricians, psychologists, wilderness experts, animal wranglers and producers.

According to Forman, producers contacted each of the children’s parents every third day with status updates. Though the children had no contact with their parents, after the initial drop off, Forman says they were free to leave at any point and were constantly asked by producers, “if this was something they wanted to continue to participate in and if they didn’t, we called their parents. Their parents flew out and we got them home.”

CBS declined to comment on how many children chose to leave but Forman told Access it was mostly due to homesickness.

At the time of filming, the state of New Mexico did not have the same restrictive child labor laws as states such as California and New York prompting questions about conditions on set. When questioned by Access about whether the hours could be considering too long for children, Forman claims it was their own choice, “These kids took part in an experience and they created a world. They did whatever they want, they set their own time to wake up. They set their own time to go to sleep. They prepared some meals. They made some decisions. They did whatever 40 kids would do if there weren’t adults around telling them what to do every minute and we filmed what happened.”

Forman is distressed that all this negative attention is being focused on what he claims most kids would call an amazing experience, “In the last few days people have used phrases like child abuse, I’m horrified by that because I know it’s just not true. And I think it frankly, it’s an insult to the production team. But more importantly to the kids that spent 40 days out there and did something pretty incredible. They’re independent kids who wanted the chance to be on their own who wanted to prove something to adults and I think they did that. I think nobody would be more upset to hear people think these kids were exploited then the kids themselves who really went there had a wonderful time and proved something at the same time.”

LOS ANGELES, CA - (Aug. 24, 2007) - Blake Lewis, the singer who beatboxed his way into becoming the runner-up on the sixth season of “American Idol,” has been signed to 19 Recordings / ARISTA Records and is already working on his debut album. The album, which currently does not have a name, is due for release in late 2007.

Among the producers working with Lewis on his first album are Jonathan “JR” Rotem, who has worked with Rihanna (on her No. 1 single “SOS”) and Sean Kingston; Ryan “Alias” Tedder, who has worked with Timbaland and new artist Leona Lewis; and S*A*M & Sluggo, who have worked with two of the year’s biggest new artists, Gym Class Heroes and Boys Like Girls.

Lewis, who has already charted on The Billboard Hot 100 with his versions of Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name” and the Zombies’ “Time of the Season,” has been finding time to go into the studio to work on his first album while he continues to tour with the “American Idols Live” tour. The tour runs through Sept. 22 with its final stop in Manchester, New Hampshire.

The 26-year-old singer was born in Redmond, Washington. He started singing at age five and competed in statewide talent contests while in high school. Director John Singleton Involved in Fatal Car Accident

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 24, 2007) — Oscar-nominated director John Singleton (pictured with Stephanie Allain at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival)was driving a Lexus SUV when it struck and killed a jaywalker who stepped in front of the car, police said Friday.

Singleton, 39, immediately stopped his car and waited for police to arrive after the accident Thursday night in the city’s Jefferson Park neighborhood, said Officer Jason Lee, a police spokesman.

“Mr. Singleton stopped and identified himself as required by law and was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” Lee said. “He was questioned and released.”

The woman was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead Friday morning, Lee said. She was identified as Constance Russell, 57, of Los Angeles.

Other details were not immediately released, and an after-hours call to Singleton’s agent was not immediately returned.

Singleton, whose debut film, 1991’s “Boyz N The Hood,” earned him two Oscar nominations, has also directed “Poetic Justice,” “Shaft,” and “2 Fast 2 Furious.” He was the producer of “Hustle & Flow,” “Black Snake Moan” and the just-released “Illegal Tender.”

Sporting a blonde wig and brown hat, Britney was pulled over in her white Mercedes convertible for speeding, according to X-17 Online.

According to the report, Brit was headed east on Interstate 10 around 12:30 a.m. with two male dancers in the car when Highway Patrol attempted to pull the car over.

However, according to reports, despite the officer pulling up directly behind Spears with his lights on, she continued driving for nearly a mile before finally pulling off the highway and stopping at a gas station.

Once she pulled over, Britney was reportedly extremely cooperative with authorities and after a brief conversation, she was let off with a warning.

'Superbad' Still Super At The Box Office

Hollywood notched its first $4 billion summer as teen geeks helped Hollywood end the season in record fashion.

Sony’s “Superbad,” the comedy about three dorky high-schoolers trying to score booze for a party, was the No. 1 movie for a second straight weekend with $18 million in ticket sales, according to studio estimates Sunday. The movie raised its 10-day total to $68.6 million.

“Superbad” was on its way to $100 million, an unusual accomplishment for a movie with no big stars.

“It just goes to show, you make them laugh, and they’ll come,” said Rory Bruer, head of distribution for Sony, which kicked off Hollywood’s big summer with a record-breaking debut weekend of $151.1 million for “Spider-Man 3” in early May. “To start the summer with `Spider-Man’ and end it like this is an absolute blast.”

Though business is slowing down as parents and students prepare for a new school year, Hollywood continued its summer hot streak. The top 12 movies took in $90.2 million, up 7 percent from the same weekend last year, when “Invincible” opened at No. 1 with $17 million.

Overall, Hollywood crossed the $4 billion mark for the summer season. The figure topped the $3.95 billion set in 2004, according to box office tracker Media By Numbers.

Movies will have grossed about $4.15 billion by the time the season ends on Labor Day, up 8 percent from last summer, estimated Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers.

“Whether it be sequels, originals, comedies, action movies or whatever, this particular mix of films brought audiences in a record-breaking way,” Dergarabedian said. “We still have to temper that with the fact that the number of tickets sold is nowhere near a record.”

Factoring in higher admission prices, Media By Numbers estimated about 606 million movie tickets will have been sold this summer — a solid figure but only the sixth-best for modern Hollywood.

The best summer in recent times was in 2002, when 653.4 million tickets were sold.

The weekend’s top debuts were Universal’s “Mr. Bean’s Holiday” and Lionsgate’s “War.”

“Mr. Bean’s Holiday” features Rowan Atkinson reprising the goofy man-child character he played on British television and in the 1997 movie “Bean.”

If the estimates hold when final numbers are released Monday, “Mr. Bean’s Holiday” will finish No. 4 at the box office with $10.1 million. It already has taken in $190 million in overseas markets, where the character is enormously popular.

“War,” an action showdown between Jet Li as a shadowy hit man and Jason Statham as an FBI agent, debuted at No. 5 with $10 million.

The MGM and Weinstein Co. release “The Nanny Diaries,” starring Scarlett Johanssen as a recent college graduate who takes a live-in childcare job for a control-freak mom (Laura Linney) and a career-obsessed dad (Paul Giamatti), opened in sixth place with $7.8 million.

Yari Film Group’s “Resurrecting the Champ,” with Samuel L. Jackson as a former boxer now living on the streets and Josh Hartnett as a sportswriter who chronicles the man’s story, opened weakly with $1.85 million.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC. Final figures will be released Monday.

LONDON - Prince Charles’ wife announced Sunday that she will not attend Princess Diana’s memorial service this week after criticism that her presence would be inappropriate.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, had accepted an invitation from Charles and his sons, Princes William and Harry, to accompany them to the service Friday at the Guards’ Chapel in London’s Wellington Barracks. Some criticized the decision, since Camilla had an affair with Charles when he was still married to Diana.

“I’m very touched to have been invited by Prince William and Prince Harry to attend the thanksgiving service for their mother Diana, Princess of Wales,” the duchess said in a statement. “I accepted and wanted to support them. However, on reflection I believe my attendance could divert attention from the purpose of the occasion which is to focus on the life and service of Diana. I’m grateful to my husband, William and Harry for supporting my decision.”

Diana, known for her charity work and tabloid celebrity, died in a Paris car crash with her boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, on Aug. 31, 1997.

Diana married heir-to-the-throne Prince Charles in 1981 in a ceremony at St. Paul’s Cathedral televised around the world. They had two sons, William and Harry, but divorced in 1996 after admissions of adultery on both sides.

Unfortunately for Natalie, she wasn’t the night’s BIG winner — that distinction went to another player who drew the higher ball in a final face off between the two. But that doesn’t mean she left empty handed!

Natalie reached into the “Bingo Bag of Crap” (as it is known) to retrieve her consolation prize - a tiny lunch box filled with Tootsie Pops.

Jamie is busy doing his thing on “The Foxxhole,” his weekly show on Sirius Satellite Radio show. And while an incredible LG Beach House in Malibu provides a spectacular summer backdrop, no subject is off-limits with Jamie, as Shaun found out during her stay as a special guest.

Although Vick has been almost universally condemned since agreeing to plead guilty to dog fighting conspiracy, according to Foxx, people should not be so quick to judge the NFL star.

“It’s a cultural thing, I think,” Jamie said. “Most brothers didn’t know that, you know. I used to see dogs fighting in the neighborhood all the time. I didn’t know that was Fed time. So, mike probably just didn’t read his handbook on what not to do as a black star.”

While he has a way of lightening even the most sensitive of subjects, Jamie is sincere in his belief that the quarterback is not being given a fair shake.

“I know that cruelty to animals is bad, but sometimes people shoot people and kill people and don’t get time,” Jamie continued. “I think in this situation, he really didn’t know the extent of it, so I always give him the benefit of the doubt.”

On Monday, Vick said through a lawyer that he will plead guilty to a federal charge of conspiracy to travel in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities and conspiracy to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture.

Vick is scheduled to appear next Monday in U.S. District Court in Richmond, Virginia. According to reports, the recommended sentencing range will be from 12 to 18 months in prison.

The “Secret’s Show Us Your Moves” competition teams Lopez up with Secret Deodorant in search of a woman 18 years of age or older who has all of the right dance moves. Inside the Roseland Ballroom the contestants had 30-seconds to show off their moves. The hopefuls were judged on dance must-haves including rhythm, confidence, presentation, and stage presence.

This morning Lopez told us what she’s looking for in a dancer, “I look for somebody who’s clean, who can pick up choreography but also has a stage presence.”

The competition continues on to Dallas (Aug.30th), Atlanta (Sept. 6th), Miami (Sept. 7th), Chicago (Sept. 20th), and Las Vegas (Sept. 28th) in search of a semi-finalist in each city. The rapper-turned-actor will star in and produce “Comeback,” an inspirational sports drama to be released November 26, 2008,reports Variety.

Based on a true story, Cube will play a former high school football star who takes his niece under his wing, as she becomes the first female quarterback in Pop Warner history.

Rocker Fred Durst is in talks to direct “Comeback. Durst, best known as frontman of Limp Bizkit, has been attached to numerous projects over the years and made his directorial debut on “The Education of Charlie Banks,” a coming-of-age film that stars Jesse Eisenberg and Jason Ritter.

Terrence Howard is joining Channing Tatum in the untitled street fighting film written and directed by Dito Montiel (“A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints”), reports Variety.

Howard will play a veteran street-fighting coach who mentors Tatum’s character, a young man who had been scraping up a living scalping tickets in New York City.

Filming is slated to being in NYC in September.

Howard also stars in the upcoming drama “The Hunting Party” alongside Richard Gere. Howard recently wrapped the comic feature “Iron Man,” starring Robert Downey Jr.

Carla Gugino is joining Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in “Righteous Kill,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Gugino (“Sin City,” “Night At The Museum”) will play a crime-scene investigator with a dark personal life who gets romantically involved with De Niro’s serial killer-chasing cop character.

The film re-teams Pacino and De Niro for the first time since 1995’s “Heat.”

Gugino recently wrapped production on the indie sports drama “Our Lady of Victory” and next appears opposite Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington in Ridley Scott’s “American Gangster.”

Former “Friend” David Schwimmer has joined the cast of the political thriller “Nothing but the Truth,” per The Hollywood Reporter.

Starring Kate Beckinsale, Matt Dillon, Edie Falco and Alan Alda, “Truth” follows a female newspaper reporter (Beckinsale) who outs a CIA agent and is imprisoned for refusing to reveal her source.

Schwimmer will step into the role of Beckinsale’s husband, who initially supports his wife’s decision not to name names but as time goes by begins to resent her for choosing a principle over her family.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 23, 2007) – Lindsay Lohan is headed to jail.

Lohan reached a plea deal on Thursday and will spend one day behind bars, plus 10 days of community service and must complete a drug treatment program, Access Hollywood has learned.

The embattled actress was sentenced to 96 hours in jail, but was ordered to serve only 48 hours. However, after being given credit for the time she already spent behind bars at the time of her arrest, ultimately, Lohan will spend one day in jail.

As part of the plea deal, Lohan reportedly pleaded no contest to two charges of DUI, and two charges of being under the influence of a controlled substance (on two separate occasions) and reckless driving.

Lohan was charged earlier in the day with seven misdemeanors stemming from two drunken-driving arrests in the last four months. More serious felony drug charges were not filed, prosecutors said, because tests showed there wasn’t enough cocaine on her to warrant them.

Nicole Richie Reports To Jail; Released 82 Minutes Later

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 23, 2007) – Almost as soon as she turned herself in to sheriff’s deputies, Nicole Richie was a free woman.

Nicole spent 82 minutes behind bars today to complete her jail sentence stemming from her DUI arrest, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department confirmed to Access Hollywood.

According to her booking sheet, Richie was booked into the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

She was released at 4:37 p.m.

Richie’s manager Benny Medina confirmed the socialite had turned herself in.

“It really was Nicole’s wish to adhere to all specific requests of the judicial system. She did everything she was asked and exactly how the way they requested,” Medina told Access.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department released the following statement to Access Hollywood:

“At this time, the criteria for a female arrestee sentenced to 30 days or less for a non violent offense is as follows” the arrestee is booked, screened and usually released within 12 hours. This procedure is based on jail overcrowding to manage population levels mandated by Federal Court guidelines.”

On July 27, Richie pled guilty to driving under the influence of drugs and was sentenced to four days in jail by a judge who said she was lucky nobody was killed when she drove the wrong way on a freeway.

She was also given three years probation.

The Century Regional Detention Facility is the same jail where her “Simple Life” co-star and gal pal Paris Hilton served her recent sentence for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.

(August 22, 2007) — The cast of “Ugly Betty” came to Hollywood’s Mondrian Hotel Monday night to celebrate this week’s release of the show’s season one DVD, but they also spoke to Access Hollywood about the rumored season two appearance of a rather “posh” guest star, Victoria Beckham!

“I’ve heard rumors that she might come on the show and do a little guest spot, which would be fun,” said “Betty” star America Ferrera. “She definitely belongs in the world, in the MODE world. She’d definitely be somebody that Wilhelmina is good buddies with.”

According to co-star Eric Mabius, Ferrera may not be wrong about Posh being “good buddies” with the devilish MODE magazine creative director, played by Vanessa Williams.

“I have heard she is going to be a bridesmaid for Wilhelmina’s wedding,” said Mabius, who plays Betty’s boss, Daniel Meade. He also implied that Victoria would be playing herself in the planned episode.

“That is what I’ve heard...I don’t know for sure,” he coyly added.

Mabius said that “Betty” producers caught wind of a statement he made to the British press that they were “really keen on having her on the show,” so they approached Victoria’s people about making an appearance. The funny thing is, Eric was misquoted by the press!

“They don’t realize that Americans don’t really say ‘keen’ unless it is an episode of ‘Happy Days,‘” he joked.

So does he deserve the credit for recruiting Posh to do the show?

“Well not credit for being misquoted,” he said, “but excited that, you know, that misquote ended up [with] her being on the show.”

And while it’s exciting to potentially have a huge star like Posh appear, the show has already wowed audiences and critics in its phenomenal first year. With millions of viewers and 11 Emmy nominations, the cast is gearing up to keep that wild momentum going into season two.

“I think we have such a license now to really push the envelope even a little bit more,” Ana Ortiz (Hilda Suarez) told Access, So I think there is going to be a lot more scandal!”

Speaking of scandal, will Betty’s ill-fated love interest, Henry, return? He was last seen heading to Arizona with his presumably pregnant girlfriend, Charlie.

“I can’t tell you the circumstances under which [Henry] comes back, said actor Christopher Gorham, “but we find out I think around episode four who the father of [the] baby is.”

And while he wouldn’t divulge anything more, Gorham has a huge piece of advice for all the “Betty” fans.

“You can’t miss the first five minutes of episode one of season two,” he gushed. “One of the funniest things we shot to date — it is a fantasy sequence with Betty, Henry and Charlie that cannot be missed. It’s great.”

Brad Pitt Tours 'Global Green' Housing Project In New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (August 22, 2007) — Brad Pitt toured the construction site of the housing project he helped set up in New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward yesterday, an area recovering from the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina.

The actor and humanitarian was joined by the “Today” show’s Ann Curry, who spoke with him about the environmentally-friendly project in conjunction with Global Green USA.

“I know a lot of the people here. I care very much for the area,” said Pitt, who purchased a home in New Orleans with his partner, Angelina Jolie, in January.

The house currently under construction is the first of five planned for the area, based on the winning design from a competition Pitt spearheaded.

“All the materials here are nontoxic,” Brad explained. “And I think, for the family that’s going to be here, especially being a father — that it’s got to feel good to know that he’s giving his family a better way of life.”

“This house does not poison the environment. It’s respectful to the-- to the people who will be here after. It’s very simple,” he said of the house’s design, noting that it wasn’t necessary to use potentially harmful new technology in its implementation.

Ann asked Brad why a man of his wealth and fame would care so deeply about those displaced by the hurricane.

“It’s a justice issue,” he replied. “What we saw [with] Katrina is that there is a portion of our society that’s being overlooked. And-- and so-- in the aftermath, we’re not going to be able to bring back the friends and family that are lost. We’re not going to be able to bring back their heirlooms and their photographs.”

But with the Global Green housing project, Pitt believes that displaced families will be given a fighting chance to rebuild.

“Maybe we can provide a better way of life,” he said. “Maybe we can find some good out of this. And that has to deal with justice and fairness. And-- and what I think this place proves is that this technology, that this healthier way of life, this better way of life, is applicable to all economic levels.”

Rather than depending on oil, which is both expensive and a pollutant, Pitt stressed the importance of relying on solar, wind and waterpower.

“Any one of these can be harnessed,” Brad explained. “And we can integrate ourselves into that ecosystem. And not only power our houses, but actually produce energy for other parts of the city. So that was the goal here.” This particular house is-- the family that will live here will save $75 on their energy bill. Which is a huge saving for any of us.”

For Brad, the housing project is an example of how the world at large can work toward a better future.

“Little steps like this-- I’m proud of it because it helps create a dialogue,” he said. “It brings more knowledge and puts these ideas into practice. There’s a lot of people doing it, and we’re happy to be a part of it.”

'High School Musical 3' Could Be In Trouble

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 22, 2007) - With the overwhelming success of Disney Channel’s “High School Musical 2” on the small screen, it’s no secret Disney is itching to ride the wave of success with a big screen sequel.

Gossip reports surfaced today that the planned third movie, is in trouble. Several reports claim that stars Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens are holding out on the big screen version for more money.

When Access Hollywood spoke to Zac last week at the “HSM 2” premiere, he assured us it was something he wanted to do, “A third movie would be a dream come true. Finishing “High School Musical” with a third movie, that would be in theaters, is just sort of a tribute to everything we kind of did here.”

At the same premiere, Vanessa told Access Hollywood she had not seen a script yet, but “If it’s good of course we are all going to join back in We all have so much fun together. So, why wouldn’t we do another one?”

Access Hollywood has confirmed today with their reps that both Zac and Vanessa are still in talks to do the third movie.

Walt Disney Studios today released the following statement; “There is no contractual obligation for any of the cast members to return. That said, we are in active negotiations with all of the principle cast members and are feeling optimistic.”

Back in February, Disney announced plans for a 2008 feature film sequel with a Halloween themed dubbed “Haunted High School Musical.” Today Disney says they have scrapped plans for the Halloween theme and instead will focus on the senior year of key characters at East High. The original writer from the first two films, Peter Barsocchini, is writing the script. The original producers and director are also on board.

Director Kenny Ortega confirmed to Access Hollywood last week that he is definitely on board too.

Palm Springs Break-In Reminiscent Of 'Helter Skelter' Scene

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (August 22, 2007) — Vandals broke into a vacation home and left a pentagram, often associated with witchcraft, on the floor and scrawled “Helter Skelter” and other graffiti around the house.

A cleaning crew hired by homeowner Chris Fisher of Costa Mesa discovered the vandalism last week and notified police. The intruders apparently pried open a glass door to get inside.

There were no arrests.

Fisher told detectives the home was in good shape when he left Aug. 14. The break-in was discovered Friday, Sgt. Mitch Spike said.

Besides the five-pointed star laid out with sticks on the floor, the word “Blood” was written in soap on a television screen and the word “pigz” or “pigs” was scribbled on a glass door. The intruders scrawled “Helter Skelter” on the fireplace.

The burglars turned chairs upside down and hung many pictures backward. The toilet was filled with straw-like sticks, authorities said.

The vandalism was reminiscent of the 1969 Charles Manson family slayings of eight people at two homes. Victims included pregnant actress Sharon Tate.

The sergeant said it wasn’t known if the Palm Springs vandalism was the work of witchcraft practitioners, devil-worshippers or simply bored young vandals with too much time on their hands.

“I’m sure this kind of stuff takes place all over the place, but it’s unusual to see it in a burglary, where somebody would take the time to do it,” he said.

Police were trying to determine whether any items were missing from the home.

Vanessa spoke to Access Hollywood‘s Tim Vincent about living with the musician in their Manhattan home.

“Whether you live with a college roommate or a girlfriend or your significant other, it’s always a learning experience,” said Vanessa. “We take every day as it is, and as a grain of salt, and I have a constant support system — and I am very grateful for that.”

Nick was right there in the room during the interview, and her parents were close by as well.

While she’s coy about living with Nick in the New York high rise, the former MTV host did admit, after a year of dating, that life has changed.

“The anticipation is killing me,” Vanessa gushed. “I want to see what it looks like, where it’s at the counter, even, and how people like it.”

Nick and the parents stood by as Vanessa posed for photographers and met her fans. Hundreds waited in line to get an autograph from the new cosmetics gal. One anxious fan even greeted her with a hug!

“You see your product, and you see your blood sweat and tears,” said an emotional Vanessa.

“I guess if I were a musician it would be like my album release — but trust me, no album here. I just sing in the shower...and terribly,” she joked.

Did Will Smith Movie Cost Restaurant Staff A Paycheck?

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 22, 2007) – Will Smith’s new movie is (quite literally) bringing traffic to a stand still in LA, however reports it also caused an entire restaurant staff to miss out on a week’s worth of work may not be what they appear.

Will’s new action thriller “Hancock” (co-starring Charlize Theron) is filming in various parts of Los Angeles. And according to one report, while the crew is shooting scenes inside Café Pinot, the entire staff at is losing out on work, beginning on Monday and running through Thursday of this week.

However contrary to other reports, Access Hollywood has learned Café Pinot did not, in fact, send their employees home without pay during the shoot. Instead, the days Will and the crew were filming became optional work days for the staff.

A rep for the Patina Restaurant Group (which owns the swanky Cafe Pinot) released the following statement to Access Hollywood:

“Patina Restaurant Group respects its staff and makes them the utmost priority. Regarding this particular story, inaccurate information has been disseminated. The staff at Cafe Pinot were given the opportunity to take available shifts, as there is a need for staff during the filming days. Staff members that wanted to work were able to take these shifts, and many opted take advantage of the filming days to take vacation. Restaurant management directly responds to any questions and concerns raised by the staff, and we always encourage our staff to bring their concerns to management or human resources, so that we can address any issues.”

The studio was not immediately available for comment.

So while Will avoided a restaurant uproar, sadly, the film will soon be the cause of some more major traffic delays in the LA area, specifically near the perennially congested LAX airport.

The studio has announced it will shut down sections of the 105 freeway while an elaborate chase sequence is filmed on Saturday and Sunday.

SHREVEPORT, Louisiana (August 20, 2007) — Jessica Simpson hasn’t gotten a nose job, but she certainly did a “job” on her nose!

The multi-talented Simpson injured her nose on the set of “Major Movie Star,” In Touch Weekly was first to report.

“I was running with a gun over my head and fell and either fractured or broke my nose!” she told In Touch in their new issue. “It’s all bruised and swollen. The magic of makeup is doing wonders. Hopefully, when the swelling goes down, my nose will go back to normal.”

Simpson’s rep confirmed the injury to Access Hollywood, but revealed that Jessica’s nose had not actually been broken in the accident after all:

“Her nose is not broken, she did not have to have it reset,” said the rep. “She bruised it badly on the set of ‘Major Movie Star’ about two weeks ago. She was in a combat scene and accidentally hit herself with a big gun on her nose. But she was able to continue shooting the movie.”

“Major Movie Star,” directed by Steve Miner (“Lake Placid,” “Halloween H2O“), follows a naive pop singer (Simpson) who enlists in the military to win the approval of a producer who considers her unsuitable for his new military-themed movie. Once she arrives at the military base, she realizes she’s made a mistake, but decides to stick to it so she won’t let her country down.

And Jessica certainly “sticks to it” on the set in Louisiana — She reportedly went through boot camp training with the U.S. Army to prepare for role, and does many of her own stunts!

Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson will star in the comedy “Marley & Me,” reports Variety.

The film is based on the John Grogan best seller about a persistent Labrador retriever.

Marley was adopted by Grogan and his wife, with the idea being the dog could give them a glimpse into parenthood.

However, the pup wreaks havoc, gets kicked out of obedience school and gets even worse when the children begin to arrive — yet through it all, becomes an indispensable part of the family.

Aniston has several projects in the works, including the romantic comedy “He’s Just Not That Into You” with Scarlett Johansson and Drew Barrymore.

Wilson will next be seen on the big screen in “The Darjeeling Limited,” alongside Adrien Brody, Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray. “Darjeeling” will be directed by Wes Anderson, who worked with Wilson on “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” and “The Royal Tenenbaums.”

Teen heartthrob Zac Efron has signed on for his first big screen leading man role in the romantic comedy “Seventeen,” Access Hollywood has confirmed.

The film (think a backwards “Big”), follows a 36-year-old man in need of a major life do-over, who wakes up in the body of a hunky high school senior (Efron).

The news comes fresh on the heels of the uber-success of Efron’s “High School Musical 2,” which debuted to a record-breaking audience over the weekend on The Disney Channel.

“Seventeen” will re-team Efron with his “Hairspray” director Adam Shankman, who is producing the new film.

Filming could start as early as November.

Efron is also in talks to star in a remake of the 1984 Kevin Bacon film “Footloose.”

Nicole Kidman and Ralph Fiennes will star in “The Reader,” reports Variety.

Based on the best seller by German writer Bernhard Schlink and set in modern-day Germany, the film follows a man who recounts the story of his erotic awakening in a covert love affair with an older woman in the wake of WWII.

Kidman can currently be seen alongside Daniel Craig in the sci-fi thriller “The Invasion” and will next be on the big screen in “Margot at the Wedding,” a romantic dramedy co-starring Jack Black.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (August 20, 2007) — Anna Nicole Smith’s daughter, Dannielynn, will celebrate her first birthday next month at a party in Louisville.

The party will be held at the home of Tricia Barnstable Brown, who hosts an annual Kentucky Derby-eve party packed with celebrities. Smith and Dannielynn’s father, Larry Birkhead, met at the 2003 party.

Brown said Birkhead, a Louisville native, asked her to host the party.

“They met at my Derby party here at my home,” Brown said Saturday. “Now Larry is bringing Dannielynn in from L.A. to celebrate her first birthday party.”

Brown said she expects about 200 people, including family and friends. She said Howard K. Stern, who had been in a custody battle with Birkhead over Dannielynn, will also attend.

The catered party will have elaborate decorations and hot-air balloons, Brown said.

Smith gave birth to Dannielynn in the Bahamas on Sept. 7. Her 20-year-old son, Daniel, died three days later at her hospital bedside from a lethal combination of drugs.

Smith died in Florida on Feb. 8, at age 39, from a deadly mix of prescription drugs.

Stern claimed to be Dannielynn’s father, but DNA tests proved last spring that Birkhead is the father. Birkhead is now raising Dannielynn.

Katharine has provided some top notch paparazzi material on the set. Not only was she snapped taking a squeegee to her baby bump in between takes, but thanks to one ill-timed gust of wind, Kat also showed off a different “side,” as her dress went flying.

“No one actually wanted to tell me that it was out there until went online myself and was like oh,” she said of the photo showing off her backside.

“Is it worth it?” Billy asked. “A life that’s full of fantastic projects like that and successful albums and all of that to occasionally have a shot of your rear out there for the world to see?”

But Katharine isn’t the only character sporting an outrageous costume for “House Bunny.”

“I’m their house mom and some of the girls are pretty resistant to the idea of a former bunny being their house mom,” Anna explained.

“It’s the book worm sorority,” Billy added.

“Yeah it is,” she said.

“I think it’s the biggest cake I’ve ever seen,” McPhee exclaimed.

“How would your pilates instructor feel about you eating half of this?” Billy asked Anna.

“Awesome,” she smiled.

“Thank you guys, this is amazing,” birthday girl Rumer said. “It’s probably the biggest cake I’ve ever had.”

In her latest outdoor adventure, a bandana-clad Lindsay Lohan set sail with several others on a river raft down a river in Orem, Utah on Sunday.

The sun-soaked outing was part of a therapy group excursion.

Last week, Lindsay was photographed taking a bike ride through town, just days after being seen strolling through town smiling and smoking a cigarette.

Reports also surfaced on Monday, that both of Lindsay’s folks – Dina and Michael Lohan – hopped on a plane together, with the other kids in tow, to go visit Lindsay in Utah.

However, Access Hollywood has confirmed Michael didnot travel to Utah with Dina, as reported by other outlets.

Lindsay checked in to the Cirque Lodge in Utah on August 5 – the third stint in rehab for the 21-year-old actress.

CBS Faces Controversy Over New Show "Kid Nation"

There is troubling brewing in Bonanza City, New Mexico thanks to a brand new CBS reality show called “Kid Nation. ” 40 children aged 8 to 15 were dropped off in what had become an abandoned ghost town with “no parents and no rules“, as explained by Executive Producer, Tom Forman. As seen in a current promo running on CBS, for 40 days the children cooked their own meals, cleaned their own outhouses, formed a government and ran their own businesses, all without adult intervention or participation.

When “Access Hollywood” questioned Forman back in May about the show’s controversial premise he assured us that off-screen adult supervision was never far away, “There were all sorts of safeguards put in place and their were all sorts of adults standing by with a real commitment to step in only if we had too, if something went wrong and it didn’t.”

Now comes word that something may have gone wrong. According to the New York Times, at least one parent of a contestant wrote a letter of complaint to New Mexico state officials after the show finished shooting, claiming the experience bordered on abuse and neglect. According to the NY Times, several children required medical attention after drinking bleach that had been left in an unmarked soda bottle while one 11-year-old girl burned her face with splattered grease while cooking.

Questions are also now being raised about whether or not they violated child labor laws as it’s been reported that many of the children were working from sun up to past sun down. According to the New York times, a New Mexico official, whose department oversees licensing of congregant child-care settings, said in an interview that the project almost assuredly violated state laws requiring facilities that house children be reviewed and licensed. The official, Romaine Serna, public information officer for the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department, said Friday that CBS had never contacted the agency. If the department had known of the parent’s allegations when the incidents occurred, she said, “We would have responded and would have assured the children’s safety.”

In an interview Friday also with the New York Times Ghen Maynard, the executive vice president for alternative programming at CBS, said they broke no laws. “We feel very comfortable that this was appropriate from a legal point of view.”

Today CBS released a statement calling The New York Times story, “an incomplete, misleading and patently unfair portrayal of Kid Nation. We are confident that the true story will be told in the weeks ahead through the episodes on the screen and the voices of the kids who participated — the overwhelming majority of whom had a positive experience.”

In addition, CBS also claims that in order for the children to participate, the parents were required to make arrangements with their local school system to make up missed school work.

Paul Petersen, best-known for his role as Jeff Stone on “The Donna Reed Show” disagrees, expressing his outrage over the show to Broadcasting and Cable magazine. Having endured his own problems working in Hollywood as a child actor, Petersen, now in his early 60s, founded A Minor Consideration in 1990, an organization which offers support to troubled child performers and lobbies for better protection against exploitation.

Petersen tells Broadcasting and Cable he believes CBS did violate child-labor laws, “Children working for 40 straight days parents deliberately kept away, in the middle of the school year,” Petersen tells B&C. “It’s almost breathtaking the size of this travesty.”

Forman calls the criticism “inaccurate and wildly premature” and denies there were labor violations. “[The kids] don’t have SAG cards,” he says. “They took part in an experience. We followed them some of the time with cameras.”

Several of the children’s parents have come out in defense of the show though saying they would absolutely allow their children to do it again even though it required them missing up to six weeks of school for the experience. “Kid Nation” premieres September 19th on CBS.

And she stayed true to form for this weekend's V Festival.

Sporting a white-blonde hairdo - and looking mighty fine, may we say - Pink belted out some hits to cheer up the soggy revellers at Hylands Park, Chelmsford.

We were among the 180,000 music fans who turned up to rock the weekend away, getting down and shaking our muddy little tail feathers to the likes of the Foo Fighters, Snow Patrol, Lily Allen, Kanye West, The Fratellis, Kasabian and Babyshambles.

And didn't we have fun... with a highlight being the Foo Fighters' surprise set played on Saturday.

The cheeky little monkeys sprung one on us by popping up in a tent in the afternoon when it had been advertised on the bill as an unknown band called 606.

And some of you fellow fest-goers may have spotted us cutting some serious shapes to Kanye West.

Later we trudged over to check out Pete Doherty strumming his tunes - after all his recent problems we were keen to check out his set with Babyshambles.

Our verdict? Rather average actually.

But all in all the fest blew our little rock 'n' roll minds.

And we came back happy (but muddy) campers.

We're now counting the days until next year's offering.

But until then we're going to indulge by feasting on our picture gallery full of all the V action.

SIENA, Italy (August 17, 2007) — Despite appearances, James Bond is not about to shoot!

Actor Daniel Craig is merely getting a closer look at an Italian horse race from his prime window perch.

In fact, despite reports to the contrary, Craig has not yet stepped back into his "007" shoes!

Preliminary shots are being filmed for the next Bond Installment (known only as "Bond 22"), but the actors will not be getting to work until later.

Craig is in Italy with the crew as they get some necessary early shots of the Palio, a traditional bareback horse race in the historic Tuscan hill town of Siena.

The thundering horserace will serve as the background for the film's climax, which reportedly sees Bond chasing the bad guys over roofs and through underground medieval aqueducts, in what is sure to be a gripping action sequence!

"Bond 22," due to hit theaters in November 7, 2008, will also star Judi Dench in reprising her role as M.

Craig has reportedly teased that the new film continues the "Casino Royale" storyline, with Bond “out for revenge."

Nancy and Ashby put on their best smiles for the folks at People magazine during an exclusive photo shoot, featured in the new issue of People.

“It's the baby's first photo shoot so she was a little nervous this morning,” Nancy laughed. “. I'm just kidding. Actually she's like such a pro!”

Rumer Willis: Surviving In Young Hollywood

(August 17, 2007) – Bruce Willis and Demi Moore’s oldest daughter Rumer may have spent some Hollywood nights hanging with Lindsay Lohan and pals, but when Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush paid a visit to the set of Rumer’s new film, he found a very grounded 19-year-old who is very aware – and very cautious – of the Hollywood spotlight.

“I see a lot of situations that seem to me to be lacking of a self respect and a self value where girls get drunk and they just kind of fall over each other,” Rumer told Billy. “Unfortunately when you know you’re growing up and you are in this business, you don’t really have the same ability to make mistakes and have it not be really detrimental.”

Billy visited Rumer on the set of her new film “House Bunny,” but it was a special day for the young actress – her 19th birthday.

“I’m hearing this from a now 19-year-old today. There are people who are 21 and 22 who will say they’re so young still, but I don’t think that’s an excuse,” Billy said.

“I learned very quickly what kind of person I didn’t want to be,” Rumer replied.

“What kind of person is that?” Billy asked.

“Just somebody who doesn't take their job seriously,” she said.

Candid. Self assured. And a young woman figuring out the celebrity game – so far, managing to avoid the pitfalls that have plagued young Hollywood.

“It’s really easy to say, ‘Look people are doing something that I don’t like and I don’t want to be around. I’m gonna go,’” explained Rumer.

So where did she pick up this outlook along the way?

“Honestly, it’s been kind of making mistakes and figuring them out and having a lot of really great people as my mentors,” she added.

Those mentors include her Hollywood powerhouse parents – Demi and Bruce – as well as step dad Ashton Kutcher.

Rumer revealed that she’s coming to terms with the side effects of fame, which includes the paparazzi just waiting for her to lose her balance.

“I hear a lot that as soon as they put themselves out there, they’re free game,” Rumer said of the paparazzi’s take on young stars. “It’s kind of dehumanizing.”

In fact, it was less than a year ago when Rumer encountered her first taste of the stalkerazzi with her party pal at the time Lindsay Lohan.

“It’s really invasive and uncomfortable,” she told Access at the time.

But as she now comes into her own as a celebrity, Rumer has become the target for the money shot. But it’s not only the paparazzi taking aim, it’s also the new generation of celebrity bloggers.

“Do you read the blogs?” Billy asked her.

“I try not to. I used to a lot and it was really hurtful,” she said. “There’s obviously a lot of people that want to say that I’m doing some kind of train of my parents and that I have some big trust fund. And it’s so easy to judge people and put them down when you’re not looking at them in the face.”
